Are there any other women besides me that still only wear long skirts and dresses anymore?

The first thing that we must understand when asking this question is that no one in the Bible wore pants. They did not exist back then—at least not in the form we have them today. Because of this, the Bible never dealt with the subject of women wearing pants. As far as Scripture goes, the one most often used in such debates is Deuteronomy 22:5, which says: “A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.” I do think that ladies should still use wisdom in what kind of pants they wear, making sure that they are not too tight and don’t call too much attention to certain areas with flashy pockets, etc. As in wearing any article of clothing, we ought to determine whether it is wise and edifying to those who will see it before we put it on. Of course, at the same time that I hold that wearing pants is not unbiblical, I also believe that skirts are more ladylike and feminine. I think it would be good if all women wore skirts, as I am usually of the opinion that they are more flattering and that women would look all the better for wearing them. Overall, I have found skirt-wearing to be an edifying practice, but that does not mean that I find wearing pants to be a sin in and of itself. Personally, I am very inclined to limit the times I wear pants, and of course I would encourage others to do so as well. But it’s not necessarily a matter of holiness or sinning. There are immodest pants and there are immodest skirts. There are times when wearing pants draws inappropriate attention and times when wearing skirts and dresses draws inappropriate attention. In all cases and with everything we wear, we ought to use caution and good sense to determine if is appropriate for the situation and the people and/or culture with which we will be interacting. And of course, keeping in line with Deuteronomy 22:5, our attire ought to show that we embrace God's plan to make the genders distinct, giving no one the occasion to wonder if we are a man or a woman.

Actually the first question I have is how accurately does your title reflect the content of your post.  Answering the title- I wear long skirts and dresses.  With regards to the post, as I'm not christian, the bible's take on this bears no relevance in my life. As to the men in women's clothing thing, evidence supports that pants were invented by a woman in the first place, a Babylonian noblewoman.  At that point women wore long robes and men short ones, and she wanted to be able to ride horses comfortably without showing off her legs in an unseemly (male) manner.

Cedailey I didn't know that about pants being invented by a woman. I assumed a man invented pants.  to the OP: I am not a girly girl and as a result do not wear dresses or skirts. They are uncomfortable for me.  I'm also not Christian so the Bible Verse you posted doesn't apply to me.  But Islam (my religion) also orders the men and women not to dress like each other.  Our religion also teaches modesty for man and woman which is very important in our religion.  I believe that men and women need to go back to being modest and I have to admit with the way our society is with this stupid mentality of "if you got it then flaunt it" and everything else... that makes me ashamed and embarassed to be an American woman if that is all this generation of kids cares about/college generation cares about.  Even as a teenager I was modest and got picked on it for it by my own family.  Sucks not having any support from anybody.

Another bit of trivia, for those who like to dress up- high heeled shoes were invented by men for men, in either the 1700's or 17th century, can't remember which at the moment.

 Hi, OP.

You have some good points. I have often noticed that there are a LOT of very immodest skirts and dresses. I have also noticed a LOT of very immodest jeans and pants.

We are exhorted to be women with modesty. We need to be chaste and try our hardest not to draw attention to our bodies.

I have had this conversation with my husband numerous times. He said that he's never seen me wear anything immodest. I wear both long skirts, dresses and loose pants. Some activities I do look very immodest if I did them in a dress or skirt. There is a place for modest pants. I work on a farm and do a lot of climbing, bending, etc.

We are to live by Christ's teachings of the New Testament, since He came to fulfill the Law and we are no longer in bondage to the Law of Moses. We are now in the time of Grace.

Good post. Thanks. : )

 Good point, cedailey:

I've also read that "panty hose" or "tights" were invented for men back in that time era as well. Interesting. They also were the ones wearing the lacey, frilly blouses. Now they are considered a female thing.

Good Morning

Great thread. I am a Christian woman, and I believe that woman should not wear pants nor should a man wear skirts. Now, do I judge woman who wear pants or do I deem them unholy or sinful? absolutely not, to me thats between them and God and if they feel what their doing is right, then thats not for me to judge. It is most definitely between them and God. But for me , my research and feelings has taught me that as woman we should be modest in dress and wear things that have a female quality to them. I cover, my head and my body, to show respect to the Lord and my Husband. I dress not only modestly , but simply. I believe that what I wear is a direct correlation with how I feel in my heart. I dont want to stand out for bling, I would rather stand out for my modest plain way of dress, if to stand out at all.  I also feel that woman who do feel the need to show off their bodies in an immodest way, have their own TRUE feelings in their heart and often it is contradictory to what image their projecting.  My family has been called to live a plain lifestyle. Is this right for everyone? Probably not, but I really feel like Christ is pulling us in that direction and that there is a boatful of scripture to back up a plain, modest, simple lifestyle.  Simplicity, modesty and being humble are mentioned often.

This is just my thoughts, and what God has put on my heart

To answer your title, I wear skirts to my ankle every day. I never leave the house without a skirt or dress to my ankles. I also cover my arms completely even in the summer. I do wear pants in the winter under my skirts, but that is because walking in 11 feet of snow is a bit uncomfortable and definately more cold if the weather is 40 below.

The rest of your post is more aimed at our Christian mommies, so I'll leave that alone. Just remember that not everyone in this group is Christian. We come from all faiths, but embrace modesty as our virtue.

I wear skirts to my ankles about 6 out of 7 days of the week. There do come times where I know that a skirt is not a good idea (like leading children in physical activities like flips or climbing). Just like Kenre, I wear things under them. In the hotter months I just wear some sort of biker short type thing (i have a fear of my undies being shown and also hate my thighs touching under a skirt). In the winter, I wear footless tights or yoga pants or capris under my skirts. This keeps my legs warm and also, when I arrive at home, I can remove the skirt and still be dressed if I wish and it's just as easy to slide back on when I'm ready to leave again.

I wear skirts for everything even when riding bike ( thus seems shocking until you think of when the bicycle was invented) I'll wear knee length at times and ph pants around the house. I usually wear leggings or yoga pants underneath...they're like modern bloomers!
