1)  I wish I had realized I should rest and sleep during early labor until rest and sleep became impossible.

2)  I was not induced.

3)  First pregnancy:  I was in labor for 43 hours!

Second pregnancy:  I was in labor for almost 6 hours.

4)  I gave birth vaginally both times.  I had homebirths.

1)  What do you wish someone had told you about labor?

Rest as much as you can.  Do NOT lay down on your back, even when pushing (ESPECIALLY when pushing).   Have an exercise ball because it's a lifesaver for labor.  And when having back labor, keep moving to get baby to move to the right position.

2)  Were you induced?

No

3)  How long were you in labor?

First baby, 19 hours start to finish.  Second baby, I was in labor for a while, but didn't realize it (very atypical labor pains) and didn't realize I was in labor until I got to the hospital - at which point my daughter was crowning and was born about 2 minutes after I made it to L&D.

4)  Did you give birth vaginally or by c-section?

Vaginally for both.

(You can answer for each birth, if you want, or just your first.)

1)  What do you wish someone had told you about labor? That not always after having your first your second can be harder and NOT easier to have.

2)  Were you induced? First time no had nothing but an epi and it was easy as pie , Cathy was in "active" labor for 3 weeks til they realized I wouldn't ever dilate past 3cm without help so was induced with pitocin had an epi which the stuff that goes in the back had to be put in TWICE after the first dose wore off.

3)  How long were you in labor?First was 6hrs Cathy was 15 + = /

4)  Did you give birth vaginally or by c-section?Both births was Vaginal but Cathy's was a threatend C-Sec cause of my water being broken for hrs = / Thankgoodness for the night shift nurse who suggested my bed being sat up in the sitting position to bring Cathy's head further down = ]

Today is Cathy's B-day she is 3 = ]

1)  What do you wish someone had told you about labor?

It hurts when the doctor breaks your water! I learned my lesson, with my second baby, I had my epidural before he broke my water!!!

2)  Were you induced?

Yes, both times because of high blood pressure.

3)  How long were you in labor?

First time-maybe 10 hours...no pain, I only pushed for about 10 minutes and she was here.

Second time-about 3 hours. She was out with my first push!

4)  Did you give birth vaginally or by c-section?

Vaginally both times.

(You can answer for each birth, if you want, or just your first.)

Quoting NearSeattleMom:

1)  What do you wish someone had told you about labor?

That it doesnt have to be painful at all!

2)  Were you induced?

No, both were natural labors

3)  How long were you in labor?

8 hours with the first (including 3 hours of pushing), 2 hours or so with the second, with the second i never realised i was in active labor, it went from irregular not painful contractions to my body pushing her out in minutes, no transition contractions..it was awesome to let my body do its work without active pushing.

4)  Did you give birth vaginally or by c-section?

Vaginally, the second one was without any interventions, not even internal checks.

(You can answer for each birth, if you want, or just your first.)

Throughout the world, there exists a group of women who feel mightily drawn to giving care to women in childbirth. At the same time maternal and independent, responsive to a mother's needs, yet accepting full responsibility as her attendant; such women are natural midwives. Without the presence and acceptance of the midwife, obstetrics becomes aggressive, technical, and inhuman.
