Ds is turning two soon, I want to get him something cool for his birthday, something that he'll enjoy now but won't grow out of right away. Does anyone have any ideas?

My kids loved really heavy-duty blocks like the kind you see at preschools.

Some boys are crazy about the Brio trains.  The good thing about those is that you can add to them over the years.

Those are both things I've kept even though my kids are now older.  When we have littler kids over, they are always a hit.

You should also check out the PLAYSKOOL Preschool Playgroup.  Maybe the moms there will have some advice for you.

for my sons 2nd b-day we got him a step 2 train table. its neat cause it has a flat table on top so we use it all the time for everything from crafts to snacks plus the trains inside. that one was about 60 but they have a bigger one for about 100 too

Well, my DD is getting a kitchen that makes noise and stuff. Maybe some largish play equipment like that. I've also got her Duplo blocks.

my son is 2 1/2 and loves remote controlled cars and any type of truck that makes noise. he also loves lego blocks the big ones and his lightning mcqueen lawnmower. I guess the things he plays with the most tho are with the water guns. He plays pow pows with my cousin who is 3 months older than my son. Those keep hiim occupied for hours on end.

Breastfeeding/formula feeding, non-circumcising, vaccinating, co-sleeping, disposable diapering, spanking when needed, forward faced at 1, feed my son whatever he wants in moderation,  Wife to Joey since 01/06, mother to David James since 07/12/07, and pregnant with baby number two due June 7, 2010.

i agree; the kitchen would make a great gift !my daughter has one since 1.5 years old and has played with it almost every day since (it's been 2 years). Also, kids all ages who come by always play with it. i recommend one of the step2 kitchens..they come in various types and have a noise making oven and a stovetop that makes frying&boiling sounds etc etc...:) installed it quickly and shopped online for a bargain price!

The new musical series by The Playdate Kids. Books come with CD, sheet music and dance steps. Get him some toy instruments so he can play along and when he gets older he can use the sheet music to learn the song. Have fun!

The wooden train sets (brio or thomas) are awesome!  We have a huge set that was started when the oldest was about 2- the middle kiddo still loves it and the 2 year old is just starting.  It grows with them, is easy to add too and they are very sturdy as opposed to the plastic ones
