Surgery Tomorrow...!!

Hi, I am scheduled to have a C-Section tomorrow, and I'm debating and trying to figure out if I should get staples or stitches. I had staples with my first C-Section, but it hurt pretty bad when they pulled the staples out. And when I had stitches with a different type of surgery then it didn't hurt at all when they took those out (This was in 2001 and didn't have the dissolvable ones). Therefor I was thinking about getting stitches with this C-Section, but my doctor says that staples are best for it. So I want to know other mothers experience with both, that way it can help me come to a decision. Anything would be helpful, Thanks in advance for the stories and experiences.

I didnt know they still did stitches. Both my friends I believe had staples. ONe is almost 2 years later and is complaining the other had 2 c sections and is fine.

However, I've never had a c-section but here is a BUMP for you

It is generally up to the Dr and what the Dr uses. Some use staples only and others do the stitches and glue.

My doctor is leaving the choice up to me but she prefers to use staples. But they hurt last time so I'm not sure if I want to go through that again.

yeah, they told me the staples coming out would feel like mosquito bites... yea f'en right!!! those things hurt coming out. I would go for stitches.

i would do the staples as a friend of mine had the stitches and glue and she has weird hard spots along her scar from the glue not dissolving right.  Also, if your doc prefers staples they are prolly better.  A csection is gonna hurt either way you choose to go.  good  luck and congrats.

I had staples with both of my c-sections and never felt them taken out except with the second just a little stinging. Stitches might make it tighter and little harder to move around afterwards. However, if your doc is giving you the choice then do what you think is right for yourself. I had no choice in mine.

I would highly recommend the dissolvable stitches. I had them and it was wonderful. All you have to do is keep the area clean and dry and all will heal on its own and then in time the stitches dissolve.

I had the stitches and glue with my first and the glue was on forever and actually stayed on so long that when I had healed I ripped it off and ripped skin with it, I didn't like that at all. I had staples with my second and barely felt them take them out even though I was so nervous about it. I hope this doc does staples again with me.

My son was delivered by emergency c-section over a year ago. They used stitches on all the internal portions and glue on the outside. I was completely unconscious for all of this so I had no say. All I know is that the glue started separating and the incision opened up in two places. I'm sure this isn't normal though, I had a lot of other complications that contributed to this because the Dr. was worthless. Some women have told me that the scaring is less severe with staples. My scar is sightly bubbled in places and still very tender to the touch.
