I am exclusively breastfeeding my 1 month old daughter. All of a sudden for the past 3 days, she hasn't had a BM. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, but it is making me nervous. I wanted to wait it out a few days to see if she would go, but we got nothing. I have been doing bicycles and what not to try to help her. Is this a normal thing for breastfed babies??? should i call her doc tomorrow??!! HELP! (im a first time mom, so this stuff is all new to me!)

my good friend has an 11 week old who is bf and he didn't go for like 5 days, but he was seriously uncomfortable.she ended up giving him a suppository and he went.and went.lol..when my dd was an infant(she was ff)she got constipated a few times and I was told by the pedi to give her a suppository if she didn't go after 24 hours went by.

I would say wait a couple more days. if she's not uncomfortable, or showing distress, and as long as her urine utput is good, she's fine/.

Its normal.

Once your baby is about one month old, he may start having fewer bowel movements. If your baby is breastfed, he may go several days to a week without having a bowel movement. This is nothing to worry about. Exclusively breastfed babies rarely have problems with constipation. If he goes longer than a week, he seems to be in pain, or if you are concerned, call your pediatrician.

i breastfeed my daughter and she will go days without pooping. especially when she was that young.   as long as she isn't uncomfortable i wouldn't worry.  she'll go in a few days!

Yes, it is normal for BF babies. They have quite a few less bM's than formula babies...there is less "waste" with breast milk.

Breastfed babies can go up to 14 days without a BM and have it be normal... Some BF babies go after every feeding. There is such a huge variation and as long as your baby is not in pain, it's normal : )

Breast Milk is used very efficiently by their bodies, so there is very little waste.

Breastfed babies can go up to a week without pooping.  As long as they aren't uncomfortable and their stools are normal looking when they do have one, it's fine.  My daughter is this way.  She is six months and is still that way.  But, when she does have one...it's BAD, lol!!

We just went through this last week. My daughter was 10 weeks. At 7 days we took her to her pedi  and she said she was not distended and to give her prune juice. At 9 days I took her in to the ER and her stomache was very distended. They did an xray to see if she had stool and to find out why she was not pooping. She had stool in the large intestines but none in the lower part of the intestines. They sent us to childrens hospital cause they thought she may have a blockage somewhere. At the childrens hospital she saw a pediatric gastroenterologist. His first question was "Do you use Mylicon drops" I had been giving them to her almost every day for days 5 6 7 8 and 9. He said not to give her any more and she will go. He then explained to me the way mylicon drops work. They DO NOT get rid of gas. Gas pains are caused by the bowels moving them down. Mylicon drops temporarily paralyze the bowels to make it seem as if the gas is gone. If the bowels are not moving the stool can not descend. The day after she stopped getting the drops she went to the bathroom. I will NEVER give my daughter Mylicon drops again.

I am sorry...this is completely off topic but thought I would share my silliness mind thinking.

I tend to reply more in the step parenting groups.  Sometimes I just select "New Posts" in my groups in order to see what is new for me to read.

Your title said 'No BM in several days...is that normal for breastfed babies?"  I immediately related to BM as Bio mother.  Then I thought....huh...the bio mother is leaving her child for several days and is suppose to be breastfeeding her???  What in the world....I am thinking....  So I click on your post to read as though it is in the step parenting forum....

Yeah..I had to read your post two times to figure out what you were talking about!!!! lol!!

So now to you and your post with the actual meaning....I do think that could be very normal.  However, I would call your doc office and speak to a nurse just for confirmation and sound of mind.

I am sure everything is ok though.  :)
