my son has had ear infections since he was around 6 months, well he is almost 2 now....anyways. last yr he got phnemonia and on top of that every 10 days he would have a double ear infection. we got so lucky last yr he had one more infection before he had to get tubes...well this yr it started again, we have had 2 infections this yr, one was a double, the other was just his right...this last time the ped gave him meds for a wk and sad it was our last resort bc she hates pumping him full of meds....well we go monday to find out if his right ear still has fluid behind/around the ear drum...me and hubby both had to have tubes, hub had a bad time with his (they had to take the little flap thing at your ear, they toke a piece of it to reconstruct his ear drum bc the tube got stuck and was in there for 7yrs.) mine on the other hand wasnt bad (i was born with an ear infection and had one every 14 days until 9 months). the same ped i had is my sons ped, so i completely trust his judgement, but im still so so so so scared bc its a major surgery to me, he will be going under anestia and thats huge to me. and to top it off he goes the 15th of next month to an eye specialist...im so scared. any other moms had to go through this or something similar??

My 7 yo daughter had tubes at 3.  But, she had a tumor behind her ear drum that had to be removed, so they put the tubes in there while they were in there.  If it weren't for that we may have waited a little longer for the tubes.

My 9 yo son had eye muscle surgery at 9 months.

Any time you put a little one under it's stressful/scary for us parents.

Just a thought....in case you're interested in trying.  It's a long shot, because it's not like this is necessarily a common situation, but it might be worth a try.  My niece was having horrible problems and they wanted to do tubes about a year and a half ago.  My sister had a lot of problems as a kid and didn't want my niece to go through all of that.  She had heard somewhere about dairy occasionally being a problem for kids w/ ear problems.  My sister eliminated dairy from her diet (maybe a small amount occasionally, but very little and only occasionally), and my niece has had 1 ear infection since.  It might be worth a shot.  If he does need tubes though, I'm sure it will be fine.  I know from experience that that doesn't necessarily make it easier on moms, but it's true.  It's pretty routine, and really shouldn't be a problem for him.  Hang in there.
