My two year old has been sick for a year.. He is getting better lately but as a result of huge quantities of antibiotics(23 doses last year and 4 this year already) he has a horrible fungal buttrash. Its not like the normal rashes and I cant get it to lessen up its just getting worse. If I take him back to the pedi she will put him on antibiotics once again.. Anyone know any home remedies I might not have tried before I give in and put him on yet another dose?

thank you

Oh man it sounds like that is a huge amount of anitbiotics. I feel bad for your little one. I hope he feels better soon. I dont have any advice but I will give you a bump! Good Luck!

If he is using disposable diapers, stop.
Let his hiney air out a little and when you put something one him, try a cloth diaper.
Also, peroxide on any fungal infection helps to dry it up and kill any residual bacteria.
And, stop with the antibiotics. He will become resistant, and his rash can turn into MRSA...in fact, has the doctor tested him for that? Considering the rash that won't go away and all teh antibiotics, I would be willing to bet that is what it is.
Please ask her...and next time he is sick, tell her to try other avenues first BEFORE antibiotics unless he absolutely needs them from now on.
having all those antibiotics is not safe at all. it can lead to many different other infections that are resistant to antibiotics and make him more suseptable to getting sick. He should be on some probiotics as well, you can get them at health food stores. Cuz antibiotics fight off and kill the probiotics your body makes as well as the bad stuff causing him to get sick, so he in turn wont be able to fight off any future illness without the probiotics so he should definately take them!!
As for the rash, try peroxide during diaper changes- NO baby wipes, cuz that can irriate it more. Corn Starch instead of baby powder to keep the area dry and let him run around naked or in loose underwear. If you can see if you ped will perscribe Happy Hiney- its a cream meant for stubborn rashes. My daughter has used it when she got a terrible rash on her thighs caused from an allergic reaction to the meds she was on.
Thanks for the peroxide tip.. thats one I havent tried yet. As for the antibiotics of course I have raised my voice and stopped it.. We have switched pedis recently because of my disagreeing with his first one on the course of action to take when he is sick.. They still dont know really whats the matter with him just trying all sorts of things to combat his problems. I am gonna go google mrsa now.

he doesnt have a staff infection. We tested him for that. He has infected hair follicles.. Fungal infection. Its little bumps with heads kinda like pimples all over his genital area.
instead of antibiotics in form of meds, try a cream called bactriban. its an antibiotic ointment. Also, when i take antibiotics i get a yeast infection, this is probably what is happening on baby's bottom, maybe check into cream for that. Last but not least in this day and age you need a ped doc that isnt so quick to administer antibiotics, there are other things to try first.
If it is a fungal rash, then it shouldn't need more antibiotics. Feed your little one yogurt with active cultures, and even put a little plain yogurt on the rash. This is if you are sure it is fungal. For bacterial rash then antibiotic ointment, perhaps. If the rash is really ugly, I'd have a doctor check it.
It's very possible that due to the large amount of antibiotics, he has not only lost bad bacteria but good bacteria too which actually protects him...sounds nuts but I learned about this in nursing school. I would let his little butt air out. Have you tried butt paste it's amazing. If anything I would also tell the docs to give you a prescription strenghth butt cream before another round of antibiotics! Hope this helps, sorry to hear about your little man!
