How long should it take?

I vented a couple days ago about my kids not sleeping, and getting up with the sun. Well, I went out and got room darkening curtains (not black out ones though), and I got them fans. Their rooms stay cool and dark pretty much all the time now (plus it keeps the entire upstairs much cooler). However, their sleep hasn't changed much. They're still up before 6 am, no matter how late I put them to bed. I put them to bed at 9:30 on Thursday night, and they were up at 6. Last night they were asleep by 8, and they were still up before 6. I don't really know what to do! Should I wait another week or so for them to get used to it? Or should I do something else? They are just SO cranky when they get up, and through out the day.

I'd wait another week. It's a lot harder to change their wake up time than it is to change their bedtime, lol.

my dd is the same way, she is almost 2 and she wakes up from 6am-7am every morning no matter what time she goes to bed or no matter how busy we keep her during the day, one time she didnt go to bed til  11 and she was still up at 6am sharp. My son is almost 5 and he sleeeps very well, a marching band couldnt wake him up but my dd has had problems with sleeping the whole time, she didnt sleep through the night until she was 7 months old then she did that for about a month and then she would wake up twice every night and then she went through night terrors and now she finally sleeps solid though the night but wakes up early.

My DD generally gets up around 7, but she stays in her room and plays (she's 2 1/2 and yes, in a regular bed) till one of us comes and gets her. It cracks us up to no end that she doesn't come out of her room.

I think the key is to be consistant when trying new things. They say that it takes about 21 days to change a bad habit. I would suggest you pick a regular bed time and stick with that time for at least 3 weeks before changing it.

If they nap during the day, try limiting the length of the nap before you try adjusting bed time.
