My first child is due in April and I am curious as to what helped other moms get through the first couple months a little bit easier. I want to know what and what not to buy and what are the essentials! Thanks!

I really liked my boppy, and we used alot of burp cloths (we didn't always buy "burp cloths" but sometimes used extra washcloths or dish towels).

I used all those recieving blankets I got as burp cloths. :) Seriously, sometimes those little 'burp cloths' just don't cut it.

I know what would have saved me the first few weeks (with BFing) Learning that you CAN BF in a side laying position... so much more comfy. I seriously always got up and sat in a chair and held him football or cross-cradle style for every feeding. Boy, would that knowledge have been a lifesaver for me.

I know you probably don't want to hear the obvious: Car Seats, crib, etc. How about an acetametaphin and a ibuprofin for you? I know after birth I was taking the maxium doses as often as I could to keep the pain away, might be good to have on hand for when you get home.

Aside from the obvious (diapers/wipes/clothes/blankets)
  1. Breast pads (for leaking)
  2. Nursing bras
  3. Breast pump w/ extra storage bottles
  4. Boppy pillow (both for nursing and for laying baby down comfortably and tummy time)
  5. Baby swing (but not all babies like them)
  6. Bottle brush (if you will be returning to work and/or introducing a bottle)
  7. Dishwasher bottle holder thing (for same reason as previous)
  8. Baby monitor
  9. A baby mirror for your car so you can see baby while driving
  10. A snugli, pack, wrap, or something similar.  Great for outings instead of strollers and keeps your hands free, baby sleeps better, is calmer, etc.

My top ten:

Car seat
Wet pad for my bed (I cosleep)
Diapers/wipes
Gas drops
Breast pads
Lanolin (sp?)
Nursery blankets
Sling/baby carrier/stroller
Pack and play w/bassinet
Clothes (LOL)

I think I have just named everything I own for my baby who is due any day now. We live simple and try to only have what we need.
