Laundry question! Is there a way to save this jacket?-VINEGAR did the trick!

I have a down puffy coat that I threw in the wash (like it says) and I guess it wasn't completely dry but my DH took it out anyway and hung it up in the closet. Well the coat and closet now stinks of this moldy/old/musty stench! I've washed the jacket again and it still smells. Is there a way to get rid of the smell or do I just throw it away? It's not that great of a jacket (it's a few years old) but it's super warm! I've thought about getting that dryell stuff instead of taking it to the cleaners, would that work?

drowning in laundry

Update: Vinegar worked! I did do 3 washes with it but the smell is gone! Thanks!!

Try putting it in a paper bag for a few days, my grandma always did that for clothes that smelled musty and the paper absorbs the odor.

Oxyclean or vinegar should help take the smell out.

I had that problem when I put some not so dry jeans in a suitcase. Whoops! The whole suitcase and everything in it stunk like that. I took a bottle of febreeze, hung everything up around the room and sprayed it. That took the smell out. Then I use a couple sprays of body spray in the general direction of the clothes and that took care of the febreeze smell. Worked great!

I have done the same thing before.

Put a little vinegar in the washer and let it soak, right before you start the wash dump some baking power in there.

After it's washed..Warm up your dryer with a dry towel and a dryer sheet in there and then put the jacket in but turn it on air fluff. It will take a while to dry. ( I sometimes take it out and reheat the dryer and start over) You'll have a non-stinky jacket lol.

put it in the wash & fill with water. add 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup vinegar and let it soak... then add some baking soda, washing soda or oxy clean and wash... then put it in the dryer with low heat and a few towels...

Cap full of vinegar! Along with the laundry soap. That should do the trick!

Yes just put the coat in and dump it on top of it, or put it in compartment thing with the laundry soap.
