Treated second rate as soon as they asked do you have insurance.....
Sreiously. The moment I said no the Dr went from all the plans to take care of me right to i will give you a pain injection and write you a script. Find a primary dr. Have a nice night.
OMG.
I went to a free consultation yesterday for my back. it;s DRS protocol to help relieve bakc pain. 5 grand out of pocket for the possibility of making it hurt less. I ave an L5/S1 herniated disk with an L4/L5 bulge. Loads of fun.
After he poked and prodded it set off some series of spasms, paralysis in my leg, and loss of bladder control. So Dad said come to the ER. He works for thre ortho surgoen that would do the surgery. Who already knows my situation. All was going along nicely until the ER doc asked about my insurance. and then a shot of pain killer and on my way out the door.
Puked the entire way home, puked some more when i got home. Called back to the ER to ask if this was normal, should I be worrried. ER nurse talks to COW FACE Dr lady. They prescribe me nausea meds that I need to go get at a 24 hour pharmacy. Yeah not happening. Then tells me "if i can't keep those down i will need to use the sepository instead. its a bit spendy but it might help"
WHAT!!!!!!! Ef you very much.
So beyond frustrated. Still can't keep anything down, sipping on water right now. Gotta stay hydrated the best I can. My back is beyond words in pain. I cant' feel my left foot.
Right back where I started. But now i get to throw up. Yay me!

I'm sorry- what would you want them to do? That's pretty standard, to suggest what you can do and move on. I'm sorrry you're hurtin, but IDK what could be different? What will you do next?
As for her mentioning the price - I would take that as a courtesy, but that's just me. Like, if they just wrote the script for you and didn't say, you'd be more pissed lol. IDK mama. :((
Wow. I'm so sorry, Christy! I understand your frustration. Even if you have the cash to pay that day, if you're uninsured then they do bare minimum.
If you can get someone to run out for you, ask them to get you a bottle of dramamine (generic works just as well). It's only about $5 or so. Take 1-3 depending on the severity of the nausea (I've taken 4 once when I was puking from the appendix about to burst and it stopped the puking but the bottle says not to take more than 4 in a day). It'll help a lot.
I'm sorry they were asses to you like that.
Since it was the ortho surgeon that sent me to the ER so they would order the scan and send up to him, that was the plan.
But the ER didn't see that as a feasable plan.
WHat will i do next? I have no idea. I dont qualify for medicaid, I cant get insurance thru work since i'm a few hours under the full time status, i cant afford private insurance.
So really no idea. Maybe go claim im an illegal.

I know how you feel. I don't have insurance either and late last year I had an ear infection where the side of head was actually swollen out like a golf ball. They didn't even want to see me. I waited in the ER 4 hours while others went in before me that came in after me. I had the money to pay. They didn't ask.
It came be demeaning. I sure hope that you feel better.
That's pretty surprising to me, our ER that I work in- AS SOON AS YOU STEP FOOT IN they register you and ask these questions. You would have said it then. Weird. :(

I had never been treated so horribly. I mean this Dr. was RUDE. My SO's dad works at that hospital. He even told the Dr she was out of line. Told her to call the ortho doc to confrm that he said to go in the the ER. She said that wasn't her job.

LOL. I'm sorry. :(
Maybe ortho- surgeon should have been more specific or sent you with a note. IDK, that's a break in communication, and what I see in the ER- is that there's alot of chaos and your case likely got lost in translation.

But like a pp said what would you have wanted them to do? Do you have the money for the treatment she suggested earlier? If you don't there is no reason to even suggest something that won't ever happen. Instead it seemed like she offered you something more affordable. And I think it's the same thing with the meds, they were trying to be nice telling you it was expensive.
I wouldn't take it as them being mean I would take it as they were actually trying to help you.
Nobody asked me about payment either. They asked my name and came back in my room a couple hours later to get the rest of my info.
