hi ladies im new to the forum . my name is amanda im 25 and have to kids a girl thats 5 years old and a son thats 5 months . now my 5 year old daughter is the main reason for this post . shes very smart and doing what a 5 year old should be doing but when ever she get exciting she jumps up and down and shakes her hands and arms like a bird ..even when in public when shes a playgrounds with other children ...she knows other kids dont do this but she does it all the time . my question is ...does anyone else know of kids doing this behavior ? and how do you get it to stop ?
Sounds kinda like an impulse thing, it might just happen on her own. You could insist she wait and stop the behavior before you proceed to do what is exciting her.
ive tried to replace it with clapping or other things but it doesnt work i just dont want her to go to kinder garden and have kids make fun of her ...because it does look wierd
Its just the age I would just ignore it and she'll stop it. I don't see what the big deal is.
It is the age and if you are really concerned, talk to her doctor about it and how to possibly redirect that excitement. DD is almost 6 and she still likes to jump around when excited. Her classmates will do similar things. She is in kindergarten. Usually at this age children will be more understanding of others differences and the teacher would let you know if it is abnormal behavior. Shoot I have seen adults jump up and down when they are excited.
its not so much the jumping up and down i have a problem with its the flapping of the arms but i think cosulting her doctor would be best @frndlyfn thanks .....shes been doing this for years but i assumed it was just a dance similar to this dance my dad would do with her to get her excited but now its just a bit much ...
