Today he suddenly started running, hiding, crying, screaming and when I manage to get it into his mouth he SPITS it out!!!
I was giving him his antibiotic and had to PIN him to get him to open his mouth. THEN he spit it out! I had to catch it on his face and squish it back into his mouth to get him to swallow. He HAS to have it. The doc said he's borderline bronchitis.
Help!! (it's a liquid 2mls)
Can you put it in anything? Do bribes work? Like we can do this project together as soon as you swallow this? (or whatever his sweet spot is)
Can you squirt it into his mouth slowly while he sleeps?
I'm joking about that last one! Good Luck Momma!
You might talk to the pharmacy about adding flavor.
Also just keep a calm voice & remind him that the meds will help his chest/throat, etc. stop hurting.
Good luck.
Daddy is going to talk to him about it when he gets home.

I had to pin mine at that age, sitting on the floor with both legs wrapped around them. It was horrible. But now they've outgrown it.

Sometimes my daughter does that. If I have to pin her, then I do. I hate to do it, but if she needs the medicine I don't really have a choice.
I know how you feel...My son is 10 now and still can not take medicine not even chewables...I used to give him the med and then a drink of juice or soda right after the med...He would take it better if I used the squirt rather than a spoon..Best of luck to you...
Does he have a favorite stuffed animal or fave character. I used to tell my son's they could give some medicine to their "bears" so they could see it doesn't taste nasty and they could be involved....I would tell them Mommy is going to have some too and I would turn my back and pretend to put some meds on a spoon and then i would show them "look it isn't nasty , mommy likes it" and it is so good...tell them how yummy it is and that if he was good then he could have some".......that worked for my boys. If that doesn't work...does he like a certain pudding or yogurt....alot of antibiotics are white or liquid, so if he is likes pudding or yogurt(make sure meds say they can be in yogurt or milk first) then I would tell him that since he is sick he gets a special treat and put the meds in the yogurt or pudding and give it to him that way....but, most importantly the more you hold him down or force it down him,,,,,,the more it will get harder and harder for him to trust you to take the meds. So, try the trick approach is always better.
doesn't to apple sauce? The many squeezy fruit flavors work well....so does a scare tactic. my son didn't drink anything for over a week b/c of strep thoat and I finally got so worried and eventually mad and told him"you are going to drink this or you'll go the the hospital and they will stick a needle in your arm,to get fluids down you! He opted to for the chocolate milk. (no we don't want to terrify our children, but it can't worse than pinning him down, right)
