We had a stray cat that started hanging around our house last September. She's gradually started staying around more, and I started feeding her. We decided to adopt her and get her taken care of (flea meds, shots, etc.), and she sleeps inside at night and goes outside during the day. I have bought a litter box and placed it in a quiet room, but she hasn't used it or showed any interest in it. She still wants to be let outside to do her business. She visibly doesn't like being put outside in the mornings before we leave the house. I want her to start staying inside 24/7, but I don't know how to introduce an adult cat to a litter box and get to her start using it. Any suggestions? It's been many, many years since I've owned a cat.

Good luck! :D
well the i've always done it with any cat is simpel set them in the liter box after u feed em and if they don't get the hint the frist time then keep at it until they do... usually though with me they've always gotten it pretty quick. but good luck i hope it works out for u...
I have an indoor/outdoor cat too. Depending on how long you are gone during the day your cat may be able to be put out in the morning to do its business and then come back in and hold it for the rest of the day.
My cat knows how to use the box and will (angrily) submit to using it if there is no other option, but he hates the box and will hold it for hours if I am gone and he is stuck inside. Since it is winter he spends 90% of the day inside and I think he has used his box maybe 3-4 times since November.
I agree with others about the no-scent and add outside dirt... or just put in some sand. My kitty prefers sand to blue and white scented stuff, but obviously its not as scoopable. It only works for us because he almost never uses it so we have no odors to contain.
Yep, the dirt idea is a good one. Try to find one of her little poopies and bury it in there too. When you sit her on her new throne take a front paw and mimic a burying motion. Also, some kitties require a lot of privacy when they go. Maybe try a hood over the box. (even if the box is in a quiet area they still can prefer the hood)
