I had a doctor visit today with my son, he is 3 years old and started preschool 3 months ago. Since then every week he is sick from something he catch at the preschool, my doctor told me to change preschool, keep him home or look for someone or a place that only takes care of smaller number of children. He said he doesn't want to give me medication all the time, this time he didn't give me any meds, he told me to allow it to pass and keep my son comfortable. Sigh, now i don't know what exactly to do, wouldn't he still get sick at another preschoool? Please advise guys thanks so much!!!!

He'll get sick no matter what preschool he goes to. My daughter started back in October and has brought one thing after another home to get us sick with, too. Most of what she's brought home are colds, which don't require meds. I've only called the doctor when she's vomited or had a high fever. Calls, let alone visits, are not necessary for every little illness. And while it's miserable seeing them sick, they're getting the constant illnesses out of the way before they start grade school. Better to have them miss days in preschool than grade school.

My son started a 2 year old Christian Day School and was literally sick every week for 6 months straight. ER visits, bi weekly doctor visits, weekend Urgent Care Centers were our thing for that time period. It's a small school and clean so it's not that it's gross. They are just getting their immune system up and you will be happy you got this out of the way now and not when their grades matter in kindergarden. Just part of life;) A very expensive, frustrating part, but totally normal.

If this is his first exposure to a group of kids consitently (like a daycare), he'll probably be sick every other week for the next 6 months as well as next winter (especially if you are in a colder climate).  Both of mine went to daycare since before they were one, and both of them spent their first six months (which happened to be during winter) sick with one thing or another.  Most of the time it was just colds, so there really isn't anything that can be done except advil to try to keep them a bit more comfortable.  Their immune systems have to be exposed in order to build up a tolerence, and unfortunately for most kids, that means being sick the first several times they are exposed.  Trust me, it will get better.  On another note, if your kid gets sick and brings it home, be prepared for you to possibly get sick as well!  Both times my kiddos started daycare, I spent most of those same 6 months sick myself (though it was significantly better for me the second time around).  Good luck!

Yes, he will continue to get sick.  Check the school's policies - are sick children (green nose discharge, fever, vomiting) sent home immediately and not allowed to return until well?  How often do the children wash their hands?  At our school, if they sneeze/cough into their hands (instead of into their arms as we teach them), they must wash.  Everything is sanitized every day and any toy put into a mouth gets removed immedately to be cleaned.

Even so, kids do get sick - they are cootie factories.  Be sure and (everyone) wash hands as soon as you come home from anywhere.  This will cut down on cooties in the house.  And be sure to bathe your kids at night - sleeping covered in the day's ick is gross.

He'll get sick no matter if he's in a preschool/daycare with 5 other kids or 15 other kids. This is just what happens when kids go to school. My DD will start preschool in the fall and I'll also have a newborn at the same time, I'm anticipating a lot of colds for all of us.

He's building his immune system. The best thing you can do is help that along. Cut out sugar, up his water intake, give him raw fruits and vegetables so he gets the enzymes. When you cook fruits and vegetables they lose their enzymes and we need those to stay healthy.
