Oxycodone for 13 year old?

Hi my 13 yr old dd has been having severe pain in her back since having a lumbar puncture in October last year. The pain isn't thre all the time but when it is its really bad. She was prescribed Panadiene Forte for the pain but it didn't help, so at the hospital they had to give her double the adult dosage to get it under some control. They have me a script for me to give it to her at home. I have since done some reading and am now feeling uncomfortable giving it to her even a couple of times (the things I have read describe it as hillbilly heroin and its highly addictive). I am just wondering if anyone had ever had it prescribed for either your children or yourself and what your experience was?

I was in a car accident on my 13 birthday and was prescribed pills. My mom was the same way as you. Scared. I still have servere pain sometime. ( back injury). My mom kept them where I didn't know. Gave them when I realllly needed them and if I was going to hang out with friends or had some coming over then I wouldn't get one... obviously.

Ask the doctors for something weaker that she can try first, after an hour if that doesn't work you can give her one of those Kwim?

It depends on the strength of the medication. Honestly if the pain is that bad, and you've exhausted all other medications and this stuff works, then I'd keep her on it.

Thanks for that. Its not like I wouldn't give it to her if necessary. I just don't want something else to deal with. The poor kid has been through the ringer this last two years.

The dr has told us to give her 2 Panadiene Forte and 2 neurofen then wait 1/2 hr give her one Oxycodone if needed then wait another 1/2 hr if still in pain.

Its EXTREMLY strong - its a synthetic form of morphine. Its not that I wouldn't give it to her if she is in pain but I am concerned about tolerance and dependancy.

You can whisper me the strength if you want... and how does it come? Tablet, suspension, etc?

That's pretty weak. It goes up to 80 and people can take multiple tablets a day. I work in pharmacy and see it all the time with no issue.
