I was sewing on my machine and put the needle through the edge of my middle finger. It missed the nail and mostly went out the side. It looks more like I just cut it from the side, but if you look close you can tell it punctured through and it didn't rip through out the whole side, one spot is still connected. So it's sort of a puncture wound still.
It's been close to the ten year mark since my last shot, so I should probably get one soon either way, but right now is a really busy time, so I don't want to jump to the doc in the next day or so if it's not necessary. If it makes a difference either way, I'm 37 weeks pg.
So do I need to get a tetanus shot for this? If so, how soon do I need to go in?
Rinse with hydrogen peroxide and bandage it.
I DEF would NOT get one while pregnant...there is thimerosol in the adult version, and aluminum as well, and they are known neurotoxins to the brain, esp a developing fetus. You should be fine...i doubt there were any tetanus spores on a sewing needle.. tetanus spores are found in farm soil, mainly horse dung. So, unless your sewing needle was immersed in horse dung, you really have nothing to worry about.
i wouldnt' even get it then..the pertussis portion sheds, making it possible to spread whooping cough to the new baby.

I wouldn't get it pregnant but you can consider the tDap in the hospital. They will push it on you anyway. It is the pertussis and tetanus combo.
