I don't want to miss my childs first hour again.

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with my second child. I'm scheduled for a csection at 39 weeks n 1 day. Well with my first I tried to give birth normally, but I couldn't. Well I had had an epidula, well they gave me some thing to numb me more. But it didn't work so they had to put me all the way to sleep. I woke up an hour or 2 after my daughter was born.

I'm so scared I'm gonna miss my sons first hour after birth too. Even though this time I'm getting the other thing.

3 moms liked this

Just in case, that one hour pales in comparison to their lifetime.  Try not to get so caught up about that short period of time to where it ruins the whole experience for you.

They didn't put me all the way to sleep with my c-sections, but I was still in recovery for an hour afterwards both times, so I think that hour is a time for you to let the anesthesia wear off, let them clean up and test the baby like they need to, etc., and not stress over not holding the baby during that time. Don't beat yourself up over an hour that's all about just taking care of business. Focus instead on the joy of having your baby in your arms for a lifetime afterwards. :)

Yep with both of my c-sections they put you in recovery for an hour before seeing baby. I was like you though and really didn't want to do it the second time. But it was a lot easier knowing what was happening. Just try to get as much rest as possible and it will go semi fast and you'll be with your baby before you know it

Did you look into a VBAC?? It might not be too late to talk to your doctor about this option. Then you won't miss anything!!

I had the same fear with my second.  My first was  delivered naturally but I had 3rd degree tears and my son inhaled maconium and had very low blood sugar so they rushed him to the NICU.  It took them an hour to sew me up and then I didnt get to see my son til almost 3 hours after he was born, but this time around things went much smoother.  I still tore real bad but my son was healthy and got to stay right with me while they were fixing me up.  Try not to get to worried about it and just take it all in strides. :)

That happened with my son. C-section with him was an emergency so I was put to sleep right at the beginning and was out until in recovery. I hate that I know nothing about when he came out..I didn't even get to see him until he was 18hrs old. That was my 3rd delivery. My 2nd, 4th & 5th I had a spinal instead of an epidural and it was MUCH better. I wasn't as drowsy and recovery was better. Now that they know you had problems the 1st time hopefully they can better prepare for it this one and avoid having to put you out again.

That's what bothers me not knowing. And the fact my husband really wants to be there when our children are born n he wasn't able to.
