Not every child is on the same path developmentally.  Not every child is READY for a sippy cup when the charts say so.  Not every kid likes a steady diet of stage one baby food until a year old.  Not every one year old can feed itself with a spoon or should.

I know they have to serve the general needs of a lot of people but if the stuff you give me isn't what my child needs than it's a waste of resources.

For those of you saying well why don't you buy what your kid needs instead?  We do, up to a point.  We might no longer be destitute but we do need a little help still.

I wouldn't be TAKING a hand out if I didn't NEED a hand out.

I didn't take it as bashing.

Quoting love-javier:

I think the point is ur bashing a program that's simply there to help. It sounds really rude. I don't have a lot of money and I do get wic but there is a ton a still have to buy! It's life with kids! I wouldn't even ask them for more. Idk that's just me. What would you do if wic was not there? I had a ton of babyfood in my pantry and I took it to the food shelf.

Quoting jediGert:

OIC.  Ok, would you like my address so you can send the check?  Do you honestly think if I qualify for WIC that I can AFFORD to blow money on fancy baby food?

Oh, and I got pregnant before my husband lost a good job thank you.  Thankfully he has another but it took him 6 months to get one and we are still behind on some bills even now otherwise I wouldn't NEED WIC in the first place.

Honestly.  People that have never been poor think they have it all figured out.

Beggars can't be choosers. Sorry you are having a hard time, I've been poor too. But sometimes you should be grateful for what you ARE getting rather than complaining about what you aren't.

they have you call in at 9 months, they ought to give you the option of switching to the stage 3 stuff that has some texture is all.  I already feel bad giving him second hand toys from garage sales for Christmas and his birthday, the least I could do is give him something that satisfies him.  I spent my veggie allotment on fruit for him instead of myself actually and gave him most of the tuna/salmon as well that I was given.

Thinking the rules could use a tweaking isn't quite the same as ingratitude.  It's sort of like being offered a loaf of free bread and it's stale.  Gee, I'm grateful that you gave me stale bread but would it have killed you to get me something that wasn't?  He won't starve, he's just bored with the stuff as it has no texture and cries after a while because he wants something he can exercise his teeth on.  I've given him most of my fruit and tuna to make up for it.

I know what you mean. I have had to get food from food pantries before and sometimes it winds up being almost all food we can't eat bc it's stale or expired, and people say I should be grateful to get food at all but what good is the food if you can't eat it.

But on that note, if there is a food pantry near you they might have some Stage 2 babyfood they could give you and maybe some other food too, which could help you out some.

I'm lucky to have a pregnancy crisis center near by.  They have given us everything from diapers to toothpaste when needed.  I HATE when I get expired pantry food.  Granted some of it is fine but when you can TELL it's gone bad why even give it to someone?  throw that brown catsup AWAY.  We DID finally get food assistance towards the end of my pregnancy so we stocked up before that ran out recently.  We should be able to get by on what we can pick up at the local farmer's market which is pretty cheap even factoring in gas and a little meat here and there.  I'm pretty good at stretching my budget but for a while there, there wasn't enough to stretch even robbing Peter to pay Paul.  I'm so glad my husband is back working again but now everyone we couldn't pay is suing us instead.  *sigh*

Why are you giving an infant peanut butter?

Quoting jediGert:

She did actually give me some paperwork in case I needed to do that actually.  I think part of the problem is they aren't allowed to make the decision for themselves, they have to go on a doctor's orders.  They took him off baby food anyways, we were giving him other stuff to supplement but I could have used more not less money for fruits and veggies for him as that's his preference.  I'm just glad he likes peanut butter a lot. lol.

Quoting Malley:

Can the pediatrician make recommendations to get more appropriate food? I know they can order Pediasure and change formula.

Can't you buy frozen vegetables or fruit, and cook it to feed him? Like broccoli and green beans?

He's a year old and has no allergy to it so why not?  If he can tolerate it in my breast milk he's not allergic to it.  I ate it during my pregnancy too.  They are saying now that lack of exposure not exposure is what causes allergies.  hence why using so much antibacterial soap makes your allergies worse as does spending all your time inside instead of playing in the dirt.

I'm sure there are exceptions, people genetically predisposed to them, but lots of people have allergies due to lack of early exposure actually.

And yes, I read too much scientific and medical stuff for no reason at all.

I take what they say with a grain of salt. They aren't qualified to make decisions for my child.
