baby shower gift

Me and dh were invited to a friends baby shower. Well, in the invite she listed no registry. I asked her what she needed for the baby and if she had a registry and she said she didn't have anything for the baby.
Me and dh want to give her a gift or a few gifts but we don't know what to get her. On top of that were short on this pay check so were on a small budget about $50-60

Any suggestions?

Some people may disagree but maybe a diaper genie? I love love mine and if I ever go to another shower that's what I would want to get the new momma.

With 50-60, you can do a lot. If I were you, I'd focus on the things she really needs, like a few packages of diapers, a few outfits, and then maybe one fun thing like a toy or book.

package of diapers - i usually get size 1 or 2 cuz everyone else seems to get newborn..and ya dont usually need those very long...

receiving blankets, face cloths, baby wash, a cute lil outfit, undershirts (again, a size bigger so they can be used in the fall/winter), or just a simple gift card.

I always give things for later like toddler fork and spoons. Kids plate and bowl sets. Sippy cups etc. Everyone gives infant things and they are infants a short time.

My favorite thing to give mom's to be is a set of books that were the ones that I enjoyed reading with my kids, and which they enjoyed best.  I always write a message on the inside and sign and date.  They get a million little outfits and stuff, which eventually they don't need, but those books stay in some families for 2 and 3 generations, and they are appreciated for a long time.  Some of our faves are:  Just in Case You Ever Wonder, I love you This Much, Goodnight Moon, Just Go To Bed.  I also think a baby sling is an awesome thing to have.  Not the carrier kind, but the sling that you can put an infant in helped me so much.  I usually put the two together.

Diapers, wipes, clothes, bottles. I suggest looking at clearance racks and items that are on sale.

I would do baby kit kind of thing, gas drips, gripe water, burp cloths, receiving blankets, teething toys, and a what to expect the first year book.

I buy a small laundry basket and line it with a soft baby blanket, and fill it with small things that are needed such as diaper cream, wipes, shampoo, baby lotion, washclothes, an outfit or two and a bottle of Dreft. I also stick a few odds and ends in for mom like some Aveeno oatmeal bath, nursing pads, etc. With coupons and getting the laundry basket at the dollar store, it will cost between $40 and $50 or less depending on how big the basket is and how full you make it.
