Could be something he is eating for dinner or lunch that is upsetting his stomach. Pay attention to how he handles things like milk and other foods. He may be hot, cold, still hungry if he didn't get enough to eat. Teething is also a possibility.

Teething? Growth spurt?

If he starts fussing is he picked up right away?

Maybe the new surroundings of your home, seeing how the child and his mother moved in, the child could be adjusting to your home. Teething could be a big factor at this age, and also the upset stomach could be bothering him, gas. Comfort the child, its just a stage and eventually he will grow out of it, if he continues to keep crying at night, take him back to the pedi.

Has he always done it or is it new? DD did that for the first year of her life. So did my sister, according to my mom. I took Bella to the doctor and my pedi said some kids are just like that. Bella is almost 5 and still doesn't sleep through the night.

I have found that the main problems (with my four) for screaming in the night are approximately these: pain (teething, injury, etc); acid reflux (common in babies and much more common in adults than you'd think); and bad dreams (self-explanitory).

1. pain: give ibuprophen for inflamation type pain, like teething; give tylenol for just plain pain (???)

2. acid reflux: mylecon drops (symethicone) are absolutly WONDERFUL for this, miraculous!!!  also, sleeping on tummy or right side helps (b/c of the "geography" of the stomach and esophogus (yeah, I don't spell well)

3. bad dreams: maybe something happened, maybe nothing in particular happened, my toddler has them ( I sleep with him and pray).

A healthy nine month old screaming for 3 hours isn't unheard of, it is very hard to deal with in the middle of the night though.  I suggest swimming ear plugs.

What does she do to soothe him?  I assume she does a feeding, right?

Is it a high pitched cry?   Has the child recently had ANY vaccines?  Sometimes vaccines cause this kind of screaming and it is neurological damage happening.  If it is a vaccine reaction DO NOT take the child in for ANY future vaccines.  If you do the problem gets worse.
