baby hiccups

My daughter is almost a month old (this friday) and gets hiccups several times a day. Sometimes her nursing will stop it. Usually we just have to wait it out but sometimes it takes an hour or more. Worse is shes been getting them in the middle of the night and then as soon as they stop shes hungry. I litteraly was up all night last night alternating her hiccups and feeding.

What causes hiccups in babies? Anything we can do to help her?

Gripe water sometimes helps.  My dd had hiccups all the time too.  They grow out of it eventually.

lay her on her left side after feeding...it could be her insides are not mature enough yet, causing her diaphragm to push against her stomach...another option is to try elevating whatever she is sleeping on, so her head is a little higher than the rest of her body...you want her whole body at a slight incline, not just her head.

We co sleep so she sleeps on my arm and is always propped up. She was a 36weeker idk if that makes a difference. My son was full term and he rarly had hiccups and never more than a minute or two.

Ill try the side thing tho. She loves laying on her side or on my chest.

I second gripe water. My 3 month old got severe hiccups the first two months after he was born. We bought Baby's Bliss at our local Walgreen's. It really worked for us. Usually after 10 minutes the hiccups had stopped.

Frequent hiccups like that in babies is a BIG indicator of reflux. Not a guarantee and obviously there are other symptoms as well, but hiccups are a big one.

Reflux is also common in babies that are not full term.

My son had super bad reflux and would projectile vomit on me after feeding. He had to take a medication for it.
She rarly spits up. But when feeding she thrashes her head a lot and its hard to keep her latched to boob or bottle
