Our 6 year old is out of control. He has been on a few meds, because of this. He will not listen, talks back, and I dont if this has anything to do with it or not but since he started on intuniv about 1 month ago he has also started hitting himself. He gets mad over everything, you can not talk to him. His dr. says we are doing everything right, and he is not going anywhere that we will figure this out. When he is mad I ask him why he is mad,and he just says I dont know. I just feel like crying all the time,I love him so much.

We have tried therapy. It does not help at all. We are even going to cyber school this year.

Try different therapy. That is what many kids i worked with who had mental illness would say, also it could be from the drugs too.

The problem with therapy is they see him for a little bit,but do not see the real him. His dr. has seen his behavior in the office. We have stoped the med, guess we will try another one.

How many meds have you tried? Sometimes stopping & starting meds can cause symptoms to flare up. Or it could be bad side effects from a med that he's taking if he's on one now. Otherwise my suggestion would be to see a counselor (or behavioral therapist) who specializes in treating children with his illness for you, so that you can learn how to relate to him, talk to him, calm him down, etc. so you don't feel like crying all the time. Or my other suggestion would be to see if there are any support groups for parents so you can have other moms to talk to about this. *hugs*

What meds is he on besides the intuniv?  Has he been evaluated for depression?  Are you keeping a food diary to pin point possible food sensitivities?  I know a mom who has a son that becomes absolutely out of control when he has eggs, so I know foods can affect behavior.   Is he on any supplements?  Autistic, ADD and depressed kids are consistently low in vitamin D.   You can get liquid vitamin D at Vitamin Shoppe that is tasteless and give him 2,000iu at night before bed in water or juice.

New to conversation (I apologize I haven't had a chance to scroll down and read responses).

Have you tried the Reward Consequence of a chalk board/white board, using drawn jar full of marbles set a time - 1 week for good behavior, punishment at time of "acting out"., ensuring he knows all the rules but they need to be written as well? Behavior Therapy 2-3 times per week for 1 - 2 hr sessions, a routine that doesn't change, reduction of workload in school and homework? Also one sports related activity a week would work also. But if there are trips to store, vacation or a reward to be given or an activity - do NOT mention until 5 minutes before you leave.

If hes had the EEG and it did come back as ADD/ADHD these are the options above instead of medication, bc alot of the meds have the "depression or anxiety" side effects - BUT you would need to discuss with your child's doctor that prescribed and regular pediatric doctor.

I hope this helps, please keep updated. I wish you well and BELIEVE ME I know EXACTLY what you are going through!!! 8 & 4 yr old do this as well. But 4 yr old mimics what he is seeing from other son. My 14 yr old just a teen-lol.
