Potty training Opinions

Ok so my son 2yo, is doing this thing where he likes to take his diaper off and sit in his potty chair. The first time I figured it was cause he had to go, but he'll sit there 20 minutes and not do a thing but gets up and hands me another diaper to put on him. He does this atleast once a day and I don't know what to do about it. Is it normal when it starts being time to potty train? I know I don't want to push him and if I ask him if he wants to wear big boy underwear like his daddy he tells me no and takes off laughing.

I would start reading potty books with him maybe get the elmo potty movie ect and get him more excited about using the potty. But I think what he is doing now is great that's what my dd did when she was training.

Sounds to me like he's ready - and he's at the right age. My mother got me a book called "Potty Training in a day" (I have boys also).. IT WORKED BEAUTIFULLY!

The only other thing I will tell you is that I used "Pull ups" on my 2nd son and that was a HUGE mistake. Because they feel like diapers - he would have accidents in them. Once I got rid of them, no accidents.

Thank you, people have been trying to push me to use pull ups but I tell them Id rather use regular underwear. I'll have to look for that book thank you!

Thank you! I have a little potty training movie for kids I got a couple years ago for this reason, I'll have to dig it out of storage.

This :). A couple of accidents in underwear helps them learn a lot faster...pull UPS just confuse them. Maybe do pullups just at bedtime, until he gets daytime down.

So when he hands you a diaper put it on him  He doesn't know yet what is to be done on a potty chair.  Do you sit on a potty chair or do you sit on the toilet?  Does his father use the potty chair or does his father use the toilet?  Start letting him go into the bathroom with his father.

I'd let him play at this and not turn him off from it.  I didn't start training until the boys were dry at night.

I didn't use a potty chair, I used the toilet.  I learned from a Pre school teacher that sometimes kids who are trained on a potty chair won't use the toilets in school because they are afraid of them, they are scared they will fall in and no one will get them out.  So the kid either holds it all day or they pee their pants.  Neither of which is a good thing.  If they begin learning on the toilet itself they will have learned how to balance and hold themselves on one when they encounter one in school

I agree we tried pull up with our first son and opted for underwear after few weeks and it was a huge success and we continued it with the rest of our kids. As for you son, I think he is ready for the whole potty training story books and movies and it's definitely time to get him excited about using it.

WalMart sells a potty seat attached to steps to adapt the toilet that I'm thinking of getting for my 2 year old. He uses his little potty here and the regular toilet with a kid seat at the sitter's. He's just starting to use it on his own though not consistantly. Have you tried training pants with plastic pants? He'll still feel wet but you won't have as many accidents to clean up.
