How long did it take for you?

I'm starting to have menopause symptoms: hotflashes, night sweats, insomnia, irritability.  I don't have a lot of contact w/ my mom or her mom, etc.  So I was wondering about how long I can expect this to go on b4 I have my last period or have finished the year w/o periods (that's the end of it, right?)

Any and all advice and/or information would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks!! :)

It depends, every woman is different.  I had a hysterectomy while I was going through mine so I didn't have much of a problem.  Talk about freedom!  But I don't kow how long you will go through this.  I suggest you see your doctor

It can run for a good while. My MIL was 83 and still having hot flashes.  I think a lot of it can be helped with meds these days. As far as periods,  I'm afraid that several older woment that I know spoke of surprise periods showing up at inconvenient times until they were pretty old. Don't let me paint a negative picture, though, talk with your doctor about medication and diet for controlling the symptoms.

Don't know if I am there or not. 33 had hysterectomy August 2009. Left enough fallopian tube on each side to hold over and had bladder lift. I have had hotflashes (not bad) bc I sweat alot anyway bc I am very active.

Good Luck
