My 8 year old cat has been acting strange latly...last 2 days...his meow has been off since yesterday...like a strangled meow...he doesnt seem to be able to open his mouth....even offered him a treat and he wouldnt take it...He ALWAYS comes and lays on the couch with me...but didnt seem to hear me...he jumped when I touched him like I surprised him.

He can pur and get his tounge out to lick his nose but thats it...

The this morning I noticed little drops of blood from the litter box to where he was laying...there seems to be dried blood on his bottom but he wouldnt stay in my arms long enough to let me get a good look...

Now I dont drive so he would have to go into a cat carrier then into the stroller to get him to the vet...I am in BC Canada (cloverdale) Main thing is I can not affored a huge vet bill right now...any ideas??

Well the vet called...he is in kidney failure...he is going to be put down...I am crying so hard...I am going to miss him....But he is in pain....so its best to do...

I'm a vet tech (nurse) & have been for the past 15 years. I used to work at a cat only practice. It sounds like he has a urinary tract infection. It's really common in male cats. Don't let them put your cat to sleep. Get him to a vet asap & have them check to see if he has a urinary obstruction. They can pass crystals in their urine from the kidneys & the crystals can form a tiny stone, that stone can get stuck in the cats urethra & cause a blockage. It can be life threatening. Otherwise it sounds like FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease) which is chronic urinary tract infections & cystitis (inflammation of the bladder). This can all be treated with pain medication, IV fluids & bloodwork. How old is he? Kidney disease is more common in older cats.

Wish I saw this earlier...vet said that since he was peeing blood his kidneys had shut down...he may have injusted antifreeze...he was purring till the very end..even stood and walked to me I miss him...Been crying for a while now...broke as well even though my mom put down 200 bucks it still cost be 190 for....not sure what...so its going to be a tight christmas...anyways thanks...
