Okay. DH and I have been together 7 years.

We've been married for 5.

When you talk about how long you've been with your partner to someone else, how do you say it? For us would you say "married 5 years" add the fact that it's been 7? Just say "married 7?"

The fact that we have a 6yo factors into this as I saw someone recently I hadn't seen in many years. They knew both DH and I separately then.

I said we had been married 5 years- then later wondered if I should have just said 7, so my kid didn't look like someone elses lol. Make sense?

What do you say?

We say "We've been together for 6 years, married for a year and a half."

I say we've been together 8 years... OR married for 5, depending on what the question was.

I say we've been married for 5 years, together 13 years.  More often than not, I just quote them how long we've been married.  If they pry a little bit, then I'll tell them the total amount of time we've been together.

I say different things in different situations. If someone asks how long we've been together I tell them 10 years. If they ask how long we've been married ii say 8 years.

I always said  how many years together. We were together for two years before we actually got married. Our marriage was really a formality, which we were both glad to get over with.

I tell people how long we've been married, to me it is much more of an accomplishment then just dating someone for 2 years.

Honestly, I normally say we've been married for and then I say we've been together for blank, lol

We've been together 13 years but married for 7, and had both of our children before we got married. I say we've been together 13 years and only go into specifics if asked.
