Okay. DH and I have been together 7 years.

We've been married for 5.

When you talk about how long you've been with your partner to someone else, how do you say it? For us would you say "married 5 years" add the fact that it's been 7? Just say "married 7?"

The fact that we have a 6yo factors into this as I saw someone recently I hadn't seen in many years. They knew both DH and I separately then.

I said we had been married 5 years- then later wondered if I should have just said 7, so my kid didn't look like someone elses lol. Make sense?

What do you say?

I usually just say "We've been together for a long time...". Because I don't want to back up the dump truck and let it all out until I know someone better. We've been together 26 years. Married for 20, 13yr old son from someone else....

It depends on who I'm talking to and why we are talking about my relationship length.

"We've been together for 9yrs."

"We've been together for 9yrs, married for 2yrs."

"We were married 2yrs ago."

How long we've been married. If I say how long we've been together, I say so.

My husband and I have been married for 4 1/2 yrs but we have a 7yr old  so I know what you mean. I just tell people (when asked) that we have been married 4 1/2 yrs if they ask more then I add in that we had our daughter at 17 and have known each other for 10 yrs.

Since our dating anniversary and wedding anniversary is the same, I explain it both ways.

Depends on who I'm talking to. People we know remember us as dating in junior high and are always asking how long its been now. We've been together 15 years married for almost 10.

No, I would not say that I was married seven years if I was only married for five years.

I would state the truth.

In a case like you mention, I would probably be vague...Oh, a couple of decades.  Or "too long to remember!"

Lol. Not that far from it. A kid, shared accounts, etc.

More just skip the married part and say together 7. Idk.

I guess just saying 'forever' counts lol.
