I have been breastfeeding my son, he is 11 weeks old. My husband started giving him a bottle a night at 4 weeks, but now my son goes to bed earlier so I have been feeding him for his last feeding of the night, so he hasn't gotten a bottle daily, but occasionaly for a few weeks. My parents watched him a few weeks ago and he took the bottle for them ok. Now my parents watched him last night for almost 5 hours and he refused to take a bottle for them so we had to leave our plans early so I could come feed him.
I left the house for awhile this morning and my husband tried feeding him a bottle again and he wouldn't take it for him either! He tried for over an hour until finally I was home so I fed him. I go back to work in 1.5 weeks and we really need him to take a bottle. Any suggestions?!
Try a different bottle, different nipple flow, etc. I think the adiri bottles are most like the breast, but they aren't cheap.
Try a different bottle. Both my kids loved Doctor Browns Good luck
My kids refused a bottle completely, but luckily I was able to just continue breastfeeding.
You might try a different nipple, something that is more "mom like" and make sure you have someone other than you bottle feed him.
Look up reverse cycling. This is very common in breastfed babies. It's actually good that he prefers you over the bottle because its less likely he will develop flow preference. He will not starve himself.
Also, when you go back to work, you can try alternate methods of feeding him, like with a cup or syringe. Some days, my daughter wouldn't take a single bottle of my pumped milk from the babysitter in 8 hours. this is perfectly fine. She sure made up for it when I got home. Always use the newborn nipple for him. This has the slowest flow and you will want to use that for the remainder of your breastfed relationship so the flow better mimics the flow from your breast.
I breast fed all my babies, and when we did need to use a bottle they preferred the NUK nipples over any other. Medela worked well also.
BTW what he is doing is normal. This is just a bump in the road. He might fight it for a few days but he will not starve.
As a daycare provider I've had good luck using the Mam (Adiri looks like that would be a good choice also) bottle and holding the baby exactly like a nursing mom would. Don't forget your milk is going to be 98 degrees so make sure and warm the breast milk. I would keep trying. I would not want a baby to be in my care all day and not eat anything like some suggested!
