Hidden Camera Catches Nanny Abusing Baby (VIDEO)
I guess this is why nanny cams were invented. A Staten Island mom suspected something was up with her babysitter and had a hidden camera installed
in her carbon monoxide detector. She said she was going to the store
one afternoon in late January, but really, she went to a nearby location
to watch the nanny cam feed. Shortly after she left, the nanny gave the 5-month-old baby a bottle, then began hitting it across the face and shaking the infant when it refused to be fed.
The mother then rushed home and called the police.
Their nanny, a 52-year-old Uzbekistan-native, put up a fight the next day when the cops showed up, but was ultimately arrested. She's been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest -- she's currently being held in jail.
Even though this story is horrifying, it serves as a good reminder to follow your instincts. This mom knew something was up and wasn't shy about installing a hidden camera and getting the sad evidence she needed so that the nanny could pay for her crimes.
Granted, I don't know why the mom didn't just fire the woman the second she thought there was anything wrong, but I imagine she had a good reason to take the nanny-cam route.
Regardless, there's a happy ending. The kids are now safe and the nanny is behind bars ... all thanks to a mother's intuition.
The video evidence of the abuse is hard to watch, so be warned.
Would you ever install a nanny cam?
Never needed one, myself or DH has always stayed home with the children.
BUT yes, I would recommend a nanny cam to anyone who has a babysitter.. Although I am a firm believer in one parent staying home with small children.
I would definately put a nany cam in my house. And I have thought about it every time I needed a sitter. Its only illegal to video someone in their home without their permission. In public or your own home you can video anything you want. If its pornographic in nature you probably have to have signed paperwork, but the nany cam would double as a security camera, so that is perfectly legal.
I don't even have a nanny, and I have though about installing one in the kids' bathroom just to see what in the world it is they're doing in there to get toothpaste on the ceiling, and water all over the four walls!
Relating to the actual post, that is horrible, and why I'm so nervous about leaving my kids with anyone but my mom. (And I won't watch the video; I wouldn't sleep for a week if I did.) Now that they're older, and could tell me if anything bad happened, I guess I should be less nervous, but I'm not. Better safe than sorry, I guess.
I wouldn't hesitate to put in a nanny cam if we had a nanny and it's because of things like this. When they aren't held accountable, they feel that they can do whatever they want.
I don't leave my DD with nannies or babysitters but for argument's sake I would say I'd absolutely install a nanny cam. You can't ever be too careful, and these days it seems that there are more and more people you just can't trust.
When should I potty train her?
