Still having back pain after epidural??

I just had my son a week ago yesterday and the spot where I had my epidural is having spastic pains shooting through my spine. It felt a little strange when the nurse put it it and she even admitted that she usually has her patients lay on their side instead. She told me she has to sit to administer that way and was having back pains so she had me sit up. I had one before with my first child and I hadn't felt a thing that time but now the back pain? I'm wondering if possibly the nurse hit something that she shouldn't? Or is this normal? Someone told me mulitple epidurals could cause this but I don't know. Plus, if I were to go back to work and this pain happens still, it'd be very difficult to do my job as it does involve heavy lifting. Please help?

Oh and I plan to discuss this with my doctor on Wednesday when I see him but I'm making sure this is also not serious and needs checked now.

1 mom liked this

It's from pregnancy and  labor not an epidural my friend has had two kids naturally and has the same pain.(her pubic bone also broke with her first one) I had a c-section and have the same pain.

Thankyou. I was a little worried. How long before yours and your friend's went away?

the nurse put you epi in? No specialist? I had one with my first and no nurse put that in they had a special person who does that basically all day long. And I was sitting down but bending forward. It only hurt me when he first put it in, afterwards I had no pain at all ever!

Talk to you Doctor. I heard a lot of woman say that they have back problems afterwards. Some forever. I hope that not the case with you!

I had a lot of pain after labor in general. I had headaches from the epidural though.

Actually, I believe it was a specialist. I apologize for the confusion...

Most hospitals have an anaesthetist administer the epi. They give you a long list of possible side effects,  and require that you approve it's use. One of the top side effects is back pain.

I had back labor for both of my kids. When my anaesthetist was giving me the spiel about back pain side effects I asked how I would be able to tell the difference between back pain from the epi, and back pain from my kid tying my spine in a bow knot (exactly how it felt!). He shrugged, and gave me the epi.

Back pain lasted a while after. Not helped by bending over the crib, and picking up, my moose children!

Back stretches/exercises, and aspirin helped.

Talk to your doctor.

My son is 4 yrs old and I still have pain. I have permanent nerve damage in my back from the epidural placement.

I had my daughter a week ago and I'm having back pain now as well! I'm starting to get really worried abt them maybe hitting something they shouldn't have and just like you said I've also had one before with my first child and it was way different. Does your back start throbbing when you sit down? That's what mine does
