In a 5 year old????? Any ideas are helpful! I'd like to avoid the antibiotics if at all possible. Thanks.

Breastmilk. Couple drops in the ear a couple times a day

If you have any breastmilk around, you can drip a few drops into his ear a few times a day.  You can heat some coconut oil up just to that it's warm, not hot.  Dip a cotton ball in it and put the cotton ball in his ear while he lays on his side (bad ear toward the ceiling).  BUT, don't do either of those if you suspect a ruptured ear drum.  And if the infection has been there longer that a few days already, I would get into the pedi.
