It all depends on your history of friendships. Some people have very thick walls to get through to become close with, others are an open book from the start. Usually pushing people away is unhealthy since it promotes isolation.

it depends on the friend. if you notice them expecting of you but not returning the favors or when you're going through hard times and they turn everything around so it becomes that they are the one who needs the pity party then it's time to cut the cord and back away. friendships are supose to be mutal!
morally wrong, no. but your life would probably be more joyful and complete if you could find a good friend or two that you could really open up to. I used to be the same way--not letting anyone in. I'm getting better, but ive still got a ways to go.
To hold back part of yourself from them? No, in my opinion it isn't wrong. It may cause them to not feel as close to you as they might.
