Hello!! My name is Melodee and I am a first time mom to a 7 month old daughter. I have a couple of situations that I would like your advice on! The first one is:
For those moms who have older babies do you remember how much your child weighed when your baby was 7 months and how much does/did your baby weigh around 18 months?
My 7 month old daughter weighs around 19 - 20 lbs. I know that the average weight for a one year old is 22 - 26 pounds. I guess I'm wondering if she will only gain a few more pounds in the next few months or if she will gain a lot more. She is on cereal and vegetables right now. She takes formula and I mix her cereal with formula. We are taking it slow because she has sensitive skin and so I want to make sure that if she breaks out I know what it's from.
Right now she gets cereal for breakfast, a mid morning bottle, and afternoon bottle, cereal and vegetalbes for supper and an evening bottle that is usually right before bed. Yes I am not giving her cereal or vegetables for lunch. Do you think that I should be giving her lunch? I guess I think that she doesn't need lunch right now, she obviously isn't underweight. When she gets a little older and she has figured this whole cereal thing out then I was going to add lunch in.
The second situation is this:
She hasn't been sleeping well at night - getting up three hours after we first put her down and then getting up three - four hours after that. When she gets up she cries - hard. My husband thinks that if I start feeding her three meals a day she will start sleeping better at night. When she starts to fuss in the middle of the night he immediately gives her a bottle. Needless to say we are in disagreeance on how to handle the middle of the night crying. I think that if she gets a bottle at 8:00 right before bed and wakes up again at 11:00 that she isn't necessarily hungry but that she doesn't know how to put herself back to sleep. She will take a bottle if he gives it to her, but is it possible that she is so use to getting a bottle to help her go back to sleep that is why she takes it? The other night she had 5 ounces at 8:00 and at 9:00 she was still awake so my husband got her another bottle because he couldn't get her to go to sleep and she had 4 ounces from that bottle (she did fall asleep while drinking from that bottle). She woke up crying at 12:30 and he gave her another 4 ounces. So in a 4 and 1/2 hour period she had 13 ounces of milk. I thought that was a little much considering she can go 5 hours during the day between bottles/food. My husband says she's growing and that's why he fixes her a bottle and she is obviously hungry because she doesn't refuse it.
Do babies need more calories at night is that why she will take that much milk right before bed and both times when she gets up at night? Do you think she would sleep better at night if she had three meals a day? Is part of it that she just doesn't know how to put herself back to sleep?
So after all that rambling I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you from a first time mom!! :)
