I figure when the child is either potty trained, or 3 years old. Whichever comes first.

Toddler bed is whenever she is crawling/climbing out of her regular bed.   We switched about 2 yrs old when she was too tall for the pack n play.

If she's sleeping through the night every night I think it's fine. We switched little man to toddler bed when he was about 2.5. He loved helping take down the crib and putting together his big boy bed. The first few nights we had problems with him trying to get out if his room after he was put down for bedtime. We just told him the first time he got out that it is bedtime, it's dark out, and everyone is sleeping. Every time after that we just led him back.

My kids didn't go to toddler beds until they could climb out of their crib.  For son he was almost 3, and daughter was around 18mos
