Advice for Moms Advice for Moms

What cuss words do you let your child say?

I noticed a lot of CM moms are expressing their freedom of speech so I was wondering what your thoughts about when your child can say these words? (not bashing)

I know there are different "levels" of cuss words... and kids hear them all the time, but when can they say them?

Aside from the bleeped out cuss words, what are your thoughts on

"crap, heck, retarded" or words that sound similar to bleeped out words like "dang it, gosh darn, oh shoot, frickin"

or even words that aren't really "bad" like "badass"

I'm interested to hear your responses :)

In my opinion, my daughter can definitely not say the bleeped out words when she gets older, that won't happen until she's out of my house, but other words is hard to tell for now.

Crap and stuff like that is fine, if he wants to swear he's allowed to in his own room where no one can hear him

Well I don't LET my kids say them but I have caught my 13yo DD texting the F word to her cousin. And then my 4yo DS use to say G-D when he was younger (I did stop that & stopped using it myself).

I let my 9 year old DS start to say 'crap' and 'heck' when he turned 8... that was his big words... and he had to be careful when he said them... not at school EVER and not just to say them for fun... like... he had to have a REASON to say the word... unlike some people who will say 'fu*&' every other word in a sentence... that drives me CRAZY... retarded isnt a 'bad word' its a disability... its mean to say about people if you are trying to insult them... I keep it on the list with the word c*nt...

None. I rarely cuss and don't feel my kids have any business saying any

None.  We don't use or tolerate that language in our household.

when I was little, I couldn't say stupid, even to an inanimate object.

Ummm none. My kids are still innocent children I would prefer them to stay that way.

That is another one in our household!  We try to speak respectfully with each other and so far it works.  If I don't want my children to yell...then I should not yell. Same for hitting.  Why would I spank (strike at my child) if I don't want them to hit.
