My best friend and her mom craft different ways. Cake decorating I kind of fell into.

Yep. My grandmother taught me to knit, my mom taught me to crochet and sew. I taught myself how to quilt.

My mom used to sew dresses. My paternal grandma used to cross stitch. My eldest sister sews. None of them ever passed along their knowledge to me.

A friend of mine knits and told me to try it, so I YouTube'd a lot of videos and taught myself how to knit, and eventually, crochet. I've been crocheting everything ever since.
