Baby Shower Registry! HELP!

My SO and I have started our registry at Babies R Us. We are first time parents and the whole process is very exciting, but more overwhelming than we thought.

Do you have any advice on any products?

Anything that might be over looked by first time parents?

Anything that you couldn't live without? Even if it's not a necessity. Like things that just made your life easier.

What brands do you recommend and which ones should we avoid?

I'm just trying to make sure we don't end up with cheap products that break easily or sound good but are more trouble than they are worth (like a high chair that is extremely hard to clean)

Thanks in advance ladies!

I had so much fun doing our registry! Congratulations!!

The automatic bouncer. (It's battery operated and bounces itself!) man that thing was a life saver.
We didn't use the changer. I just changed her wherever we were at the time. (On my bed, in her crib, on the floor or couch) And she grew out of the changer pretty quickly.
I hated the umbrella strollers. They were never tall enough and I always kicked the bar on the bottom. Had to sort of lean forward awkwardly to walk without kicking it. The big stroller was much easier to handle and much more comfortable to push around.
The "travel system" stroller/infant seat was used A LOT.
I didn't use the wiper warmer. That was a waist of money.

Ooh. There are these awesome cloth like bibs that are still waterproof. Those things were my fav.

A play/tummy time mat. She loved that.

A swing! Or bouncer.

A diaper bag in a style you like. It will become your purse for a year or more, make sure it's something you like looking at.

A Boppy.

A really good sling, wrap, or carrier, but not a baby bjorn or any other "crotch dangler" - look for the types that splay the legs out. They're much better for hip development. I really like the Infantino Mai Tei carrier. Ergo and Beco make awesome carriers, too.

If you plan on using disposable diapers, a diaper genie.

I personally love my umbrella stroller. Never used a travel system; the stroller part doesn't fit in my Cube. I just used the mai tei carrier until he was big enough for the umbrella stroller. (I have a 1st Years Jet stroller, it's lasted for over a year, and has a few hundred miles on it (at least), and is in great shape.

Congratulations!

Lots of diapers
receiving blankets
crib/bassinet sheets
boppy pillow & covers for it
if planning to nurse:
Breast pads, lanolin, nursing cover (of you want to cover)
Pacis
bouncy seat

Congratulations!

Other than clothes and diapers, the only things we got that got a lot of use are:
the boppy
crib and just the sheets
waterproof crib pads (I even cut one in half for use in carseats).
blankets larger than receiving size
baby towels to dry my own hair (the kids prefer the big towels)
changing pad (taken off the table when DD4 was 2 days old, table itself ended up donated).
High chair
baby dishes and silverware. We used the bottle brush on our own glassware the day we got it.
And eventually, the potty, which is still in use today because my kids are too young or autistic to "just hold it".
