My mother may have a tumor on her spine. Anyone else experience this?

My mother is having numbness and tingling down her leg. I was SURE it sciatica since I suffered from it once, and have known many people who have.

So, she went for an MRI. The Dr, who is just a GP, not a specialist, advised she have an orthopedic look at it. It shows a mass, possibly a tumor, and spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spine).

She is acting as though it's not a tumor, and it's not all that urgent. She made an appointment for Sept 2nd with a specialist. I think that's crazy, and she needs to be seen ASAP. I read all about spinal tumors, and it's very likely she has cancer, even cancer that spread from elsewhere. It's very rare for a spinal tumor to be the primary tumor.

Anyway, does anyone have any experience with spinal tumors? I am urging her to get a sooner appointment. I think she's in denial, this could be very serious.

I am very sorry to hear that she may be facing this. I didn't know this much about spinal tumors until I read your post. I agree that I'd be urging her to get an appt sooner.  That way if it is nothing, then you both could be relieved, and if it is something, then treatment can begin sooner. Sometimes specialists take a while to get appointments for, so perhaps her doctor could give the specialist office a call and urge them to see her sooner.

Thank you, I will ask her about that. Around here it could take months to see a good specialist.

A former co-worker and very good friend of mine had/has this.  He had a tumor on his spine, it was cancer.  He had severe pain for weeks and he ignored it until one day the pain was so great he passed out.  He had surgery in january to remove the tumor.  He had to get a couple of pins in his back as well.  I guess it kinda wrapped around his spine.  He had several weeks of radiation treatments.  He is doing ok for right now.  He is back to work.  Idk....I would try to get in sooner than 2nd if it were me.

Thank you for replying. Most of what I've read about spinal tumors is not good. She's not in any pain tho, just numbing and tingling. But I don't think that's very telling.
