Please Help! Has Anyone Used a Bedrail on a Bunkbed? Is it Safe? (PIOG)

If so, what kind?  It seems that all of them that say they'll work on any bed, including bunkbeds, actually don't when you get them.  We ordered one online and got it today.  The ad said it would work.  I open the box and get to the instruction sheet and right on the front under WARNING:, it says "NEVER use on a toddler bed, bunkbed, waterbed, or bed with inflatable mattress.  Use only on adult bed with mattress and box spring".  Seems there is a suffocation and strangulation hazard on a bunkbed because the rail can move away from the matress allowing the child to slip between the rail & mattress.

Is there anything that IS safe?  My daughter will be 3 next month and just moved from the crib to the bottom bunk Sunday night.  We don't want her to fall, but maybe a fall of that short distance is safer than a rail?

Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!
