I saw a post about driving and texting a few days ago and was surprised how many people do it while they are driving. I got this email and thought I would pass it along. I checked it out on snopes, but couldn't find it. I am sure that it could happen though. So please don't text and drive. What if this was your child?
It could happen to anybody...
The very real human consequences that can result from driving while 'InTEXTicated'.
An 18-year-old girl plowed directly into the rear of another vehicle. She was going 70 mph. She apparently never even saw them. You see, she had been texting at the time.
You can see that she hit them dead-center with no attempt to slow or evade the collision.
She hit dead-center on her 2008 Yukon SUV as well. She escaped unscathed.
There was no blowout, no wet road, no curve or hill or fog to limit visibility. This girl clearly should have been able to see the traffic conditions at least a half mile ahead had she been looking and not texting. She nearly killed a beautiful 3-year-old child?
Here's a personal look at the real human cost of texting while driving:
Griffin before the accident.
Griffen the day after 4 hours of surgery to repair multiple skull fractures. He would surely have died or been severely disabled had they not been minutes away (by StarFlight helicopter) from Austin's world-class children's Dell Children's Medical Center and neurosurgeon Dr. Timothy George.
Day 4 - watching a movie on his Dad's iPhone.
The swelling of his head will go away, but that scar from ear-to-ear will be with him forever.
Feeling better. Mmmmm - mac-n-cheese. :-)
Day 5 - feeling much better. My granddad bought me my very own iPod and loaded it with movies. Life is good.
This morning. All my tubes are finally out. I'm going home today!
Note how much the swelling has improved in just three days.
It's almost unbelievable that it's been only five days since the accident that nearly claimed his life.
All the medical experts involved expect him to make a full recovery.
Pretty soon he'll be all healed up and back to normal - thank the Lord!
In only six weeks he'll be allowed to be just as active as any other 3-year-old.
Phone company records of text messages are irrefutable and accurate to the second; so it would be an easy matter to prove in court that a person was texting at the time of an accident. As with drunken driving, a jail sentence (no matter the driver's age) will be mandatory whenever anyone is injured by an InTEXTicated driver.
I encourage you to forward this email to all your friends. We must try to stop 'Driving While InTEXTicated' before more innocent people are maimed or killed.
My best friend texts while she's driving. I hate it and won't allow her to even pick up her phone if I'm in the car and she's driving.
About 2 years ago she was texting and flipped her car into a ditch. She wasn't hurt but her car was totaled. Her parents bought her a new car. I don't think she told them she was texting when she wrecked. ![]()

I hate to say it but I txt while I drive. I have cut down a ton, but every once in a while i give ppl an ok if they txt me.....I know it's wrong and believe me, I used to have a whole convo the whole 15 min I was commuting to town.....but I have almost stopped completely....it's like a habit that's hard to break, so now I crank the tunes so I don't think about it.
The pictures didn't load! I'm a guilt one! I have a Blackberry Pearl and it's rather easy to text but I tend to text a lot and I catch myslef drift into another lane or slam on my breaks cause I almost rearended someone! So yea I have been just letting my phone buzz til I get somewhere to where I can check it! I still text a lot if it's just me in the car but when the kids are with me I just let it go off and "try" not to mess with it!
I have a wireless headset for my phone, so if someone texts me while I'm driving, I just pop open the phone and hit the green button and call whoever just texted me to find out what they want. If they have time to text, they have time to answer a quick call.

Blessed Be!
i cant stand it!! my mom and husband and sister all do it and it makes me nervous. ive taken their phones and just texted for them because i dont want to wreck.
I used to do it like crazy. On ocassion I'll text at a red light or maybe just read what it says. In the stated of Minnesota it is now illegal to text while driving which I think is great. It is also illegal for 16-18 year olds (I believe but I know for sure 16 yo) to even talk on the phone while driving.
Driving through Atlanta on 75 - I see people doing this ALL THE TIME.
I do not text, however I have a bluetooth so I do talk if someone calls me. If I have to make a call I wait till Im stopped it may be at a red light but stopped none the less. Where I live a girl was texting and hit 2 motorcycles with 2 people each on them and she killed them all. After that about a mile from where that happened a guy hit a man that was running in the bike laneand killed him. I just think its rediculous that there was that much unnecessary blood shead for something as stupid as texting. I personally dont do it anyway its easier to hit talk and call.
