Sitting on pins and needles

Hello..

I need to know from some other moms with the same situation:

I have a 2 1/2 year old son who has only 3 words to his vocabulary. I have two older children and they began speaking early. My son who does not talk had other delays in sitting up by himself, crawling and walking. He doesn’t play with toys or have an interest in them. I dump out container of cars and he will put them back into container.

He is very obsessed with broom and  vacuum he will sweep for hours the same spots and use his toy vacuum for hours if you let him,

Tv can be on and he will stop what he is doing to watch only the commercials when they come on

He looks at all the details on diapers, toys or other things and he will do this every time as if he has never seen "diaper" before.

I don't know if all of this has anything to do with him not talking but I am sooo confused. He is a very happy little guy and he never throws a fit.

If there are any other moms out there with the same problem/issue. I want to think that he is not speaking because he is the third child or being lazy.

my twins also have minimal words. it's at about 8 or so. but they play fine and everything. they also talk and understand each other. have you talked to the ped about him? they may want to start him on speech therapy

I'm a young, single, vaxing, CIO, pro-choice, spanking when needed, put off today what can be done tomorrow, family comes first, make a fool of myself to make my kids laugh, country music lovin', tattoo addicted SAHM of 2yr old twin boys.

Thank you for responding.

The ped said he might have possible ear problem. So he has an appointment scheduled.

I know he can hear as he reacts and responds when you speak to him.

My three year old has always been this way, and has only begun speaking in complete sentences in the last few months. She also has many of the same symptoms your son has. Doctors have suggested Autism, but she has not received an official diagnosis. There is a history of it on my husband's side, so I know that at the very least it is likely. Just start working with him aggressively, at least to make sure he understand what things are. He may know, and just not say so, which is what my daughter did to a certain degree.

Thank you

I have done some research on the net (don't know if it has made it worse emotionally) and everything that he has or hasn't been doing points to "high functioning autism" with no family history.

My nephew has aspergers(high functioning autism) and I have to say it does sound like that is what your son has(but i'm no expert).  The good news is that my nephew will be 8 this summer and with medication he is as normal as any other 8 year old boy i've ever met!  Hes on grade level with his twin sister in school.  :)
