New Law to be put in place in Alaska should be in all states if it's not already

Alaska government leaders have just past a proposal to have Alaskans vote on wether or not they want this bill passed. It states that any female under the age of 18 has to have a legal parent consent before they can have an abortion. The only way they would get past not having one would be if they had proof they were being abused by their parental guardian, they could convince a judge, or if a doctor made it so it was a heath risk. I personally think this is an awesome idea. With all the shady things that doctors do nowadays if I believed in abortion I would never allow my daughter to go somewhere without my consent if she happened to get pregnant and want an abortion. I for one am going to educate my daughter on sex and put her on birth control as soon as she is having sex but still this gives me some piece of mind that my daughter isn't going to go out and get something she is going to regret or do something I would have no idea about when she is a minor. What do you ladies think? Please no Drama or I will delete this I just want opinions.

  • Exactly. And maybe the fear of their parents will make them more careful. IMO, most minors are not mature enough to realize the long term effects. All they see is a way out of having a baby.

I am somewhat against abortions too, and i like this law. Teens need to know that abortion is not a kind of birth control. And maybe they would be more careful if they know they can't just run out and have a abortion everytime they have sex. I knew this girl when i was a teen and she had so many abortions that it messed her up and she wasn't able to have kids anymore, i don't want my daughter to end up that way.

  • I think it might be a good idea. I mean if my teen needs any other kind of healthcare or surgery I have to sign a consent form. I don't think an abortion should be any different.

  • If a parent needs to consent to any other health care procedures, abortions should be the same.   I also believe teens should have parential permission for birth control too (outside of drug store availability types).

  • horrible idea.
I predict that if/when this law is passed....you are going to see a rise in newborns being dumped in the trash.

The solution to getting rid of abortions is not more laws AGAINST abortions...it is sex education and access to birth control.

  • yes. i would like to know at that age if my child is prego and to talk with her. obviously it will start some interesting conversations and some parents who think their child is innocent will learn other wise. its parents job to protect their child, but how can they when they dont knwo the truth of whats going on. i think it will premote teens to be more careful and wait. im against abortions, but if i wasnt, i would be scared to death to tell my parents so i would wait or use more protection

In reality though, how many teens do you really think are going to know about this law until it is too late? Teens are going to get knocked up regardless, and not always but it is usually due to the parents not knowing what their kids are doing 99% of the time, and to me if a parent is going to parent that way, well then the teen should be able to make that decision on their own.

  • I do believe that the parents SHOULD KNOW about an abortion, as it is a medical procedure and the parents should be advised of their child's medical condition. What if there were later complications? Definitely a good law.
