Croup Advice

DS will be two next month. She woke up with a high fever 102 and all of the croup symptoms.

I called dial-a-nurse for the pediatrician and have given her tylenol and set up both humidifiers in her room.

Do you ladies have any suggestions or hints on how to make the next few days go smoother.

Also, what do I do as far as daycare goes. Do I send her/not send her. Do I tell daycare she has croup?

I know that ideally I'd stay home with her the whole five days. but I teach and have no other choices besides send her to daycare/stay home from work.

I know that croup is contagious, with few daytime symptoms. She most likely got it from daycare. What do you think?

just found out our 6 month old has it we went to the doctor and they gave us some suggestions

*keep child in semi-seated position (like carseat or stroller)

*turn on hot water in bathroom shower let room feel with steam and hold baby in your arms for 15-30 min

*i also have been using "little noses" to clear out his nose i put in a few drops let it sit for 5 minutes then use a bulb syringe  to suck out the mucus

*warm apple juice to calm the cough and soothe the throat

*wrap child in blanket and walk around outside in cool air

if it last longer then a week take the baby in right away hope this helps

My son is now 5 and we have been through it more times then I care to remember.  We have made more trips to the hospital at midnight because I could not get him to stop coughing, or breathe right.  Yes it is contagious, but they can actually give either a steriod shot, or an oral steriod to help calm the inflamed vocal chords.  My son has had those several times as well.  They lasst 36 or so hours so you will get through the next night.  I would suggest that you call your Dr office this am and see if she can be seen.  That way you should have a peaceful night tonight.
