My son is 7 weeks old. At this age I know the soft spot is still there but I have a question. I feed my son the other day, laid him in his swing after his feeding cause he feel asleep. At this time his soft spot was "normal", fine looking. His head was round, looked fine! Well, I got busy with some house cleaning. About 30 minutes later my oldest dd came home from school and was like, "what happened to Matthews head?" I was like nothing why? She said cause it looks bruised. At first I thought she said his hand so I didnt think "much" about it.
A few minutes later I went to check on what she was talking about and started freaking out!! I was like what is wrong with his HEAD!? She was like, "I know that what I was asking!" I told her, "I thought You said his hand!"
But anyway, I called his doctor and tried to explain it to her. She acted like it was nothing but if she could have seen it! It was sucken in, and you could see the skull lines on both sides and down the back of his head! Like his skull had come seperated or something. The doctor was closing but she said IF I was still concerned take him to the ER.
My dh was on his way home from work and tried to tell me it was normal. I keep telling him its not cause I had NEVER seen anything like this with ANY of my kids! He got home looked at it and still said it was normal. I called his doctor and said I would just bring him in the next morning and made the appt. The thing is the next morning it was NOT even like that no more!!!!!!!!!! I felt crazy!
I have added a pic so you can see about what it looked like. Of course pictures dont show the actual way it looked. It looked worse than the pic! But now its fine. Pretty and round and you cant even see his soft spot again. It was just so weird. Any other parent seen their child do this? What is this? And how and why did it just disappear like it did? It still has me worried but its not like this no more and the pediatrician doesnt seem to want to look at a pic to diagnose him. So I dont know! What should I do? Anything?
do you feel like baby is feeding enough? If you're nursing, they should be latched for at least 20 minutes, and I don't know how much of a bottle they get, but it CAN be a sign of not getting enough... otherwise, I've also seen this in my second child and never actually worried about it. You can ask the doctor to explain to you what is making this happen just so you understand it, therefore; you don't fear it. But it never seemed like anything to worry about to me.
Typically soft spots get sunken in like that when baby is dehydrated. Is he having issues with no wet diapers? Is he getting enough liquids or maybe just on that day he didn't? Just keep an eye on him and see if it happens again. If it does, keep pushing for answers from the doctor... show him the picutres if you have to. I am sure he is ok though!
