my daughter has be sucking a pacifer for 2yrs she is 2 and half I feel so embrassed when people see her with it then it make me feel like a bad parent when they say I know that pacifers not hers she is a big girl now I feel awful for even starting on it she only has it for sleep now and now tries 2 suck even more since she has a new baby brother I wish she can go to sleep I don;t how to help her get off it nothing seems 2 work, I even brought her a small stuffted pretty doll and she still won;t give up the paci I'm at my wits end what shall I do now.
I have heard of some parents doing a "pacifier fairy"... they tell the kids that the fairy has to go around and collect all the paci's from the big kids and in return they leave something. So the child leaves the pacifier under the pillow like a tooth and the next morning its gone. I have never done it, but I have heard it works really well!

I've never dealt with a paci. My girls only took it for a bit when they were born and never kept with it. I don't know what my 3rd will do with it. She's only 2 weeks. I just know for myself I use to suck my thumb till I was 5. I stopped on my own and my teeth were perfectly fine and never had any other problems from it. If it was my kids I wouldn't worry about it till they are ready.
My daughter was pretty attached to hers. She had it in her mouth all of the time including when she would talk. It drove me nuts. At 15 months I finally decided to take them away from her. However that didn't seem to happen cuz somehow or another she kept finding more. So everytime she found one I cut the nipple off and she would try and suck on them but couldn't so she finally just gave up and didn't need them anymore. At night, I had a routine with her and read her a book brushed her teeth and tucked her in. Then we would leave the room and she would start crying and as hard as it was to just let her cry, after the first night, the crying got shorter and shorter and it finally just got to the point where she would go right to sleep after we put her in there. But it just takes time. Good luck
