Swaddling Your Baby?

Did you swaddle your baby?  Did they like it?  Was it "necessary" to do to get them to sleep?  Did you just use blankets or did you buy a special "swaddler"?

Yes we swaddled our daughter. I'm not sure if she "needed" it to fall asleep, but I always noticed that when she was swaddled up tight, she was less fussy, and seemed more comfortable.

We used regular receiving blankets, and something called a "moss bag". My SO is Native Canadian, Cree to be exact, and in their culture, it's customary for the grandmother to make each new baby a moss bag. Mine was made of velvet and lined with rabbit fur, though they are often made of deer or moose hide with rabbit fur on the inside. It's like a bag you put the baby in, and lace up down the front, to make it really nice and snug. Here's a photo of Ayla in her moss bag.

Excuse the mess on the floor lol, I didn't get much cleaning done in those days lol.

We swaddled out little one, it always seemed to calm him down.  We tried the special blankets but honeslty a regular blanket worked better.

Both of my kids were swaddled.  It kept them happy =)

I have many of the swaddling blankets I got second hand for $1-$2

My daughter, the hospital swaddled her but shortly after we got home, she'd break out of the swaddle while she slept. It didn't seem like she needed to be swaddled in order to fall asleep, as long as she was full and comfortable she would fall asleep.

My son, we swaddled until 3 months, that's when he learned to turn over and didn't like to be trapped in the blanket swaddle anymore. He started to wiggles around during sleep but didn't wake up from it.

We used blankets for both of them, which was lucky for us because they didn't like to be swaddled for that long of a time.

my daughter HATED being swaddled. She's hated any form of restraint from the time she was born. She still does.

yes, i have 7 children and we swaddled them all..they loved it..we have and 8 week old baby girl that we still swaddle she loves it...we just used a blanket..not necessary to swaddle for her to sleep but if she isnt swaddled there has to be a blanket tightly tucked around her..here is a pic of Alyssa about a week  old..this is good one for an example of how tight she liked to be..lo..i said she looks like a little buritto..lol

My first three kids hated being swaddled, but my youngest (two weeks old) loves it and sleeps much better if you do it- but you have to do it right, lol....and we just use blankets, I don't get all the contraptions they have out now, lol....

My daughter would not go to sleep unless she was swaddled.  We used blankets for the first month or two, but then she'd break out of those while she was asleep, and then wake up and scream because she was no longer swaddled.  We tried a swaddler we bought at Target, but it never fit right, so we ended up going to a local boutique and buying a baby bag with swaddle, and it worked very for awhile.

Quinn hated to be swaddled. Since birth (even in the hospital when the nurses swaddled her) she would somehow work her arms out of the blanket.

I swaddled both of my babies.  They did not need to be swaddled to fall asleep, but I found that they slept better (and longer) if they were swaddled.  We have a couple of swaddling blankets that we got as gifts, but also used regular blankets as well.

Swaddling is supposed to help babies feel more secure, as they were confined in the whom before they were born.  I know some babies that hate it though... so I guess it's not for everyone.  ;)

Proud wife, and mama of 2 boys.
