Hi Everyone, My almost 6 month old has a horrible diaper rash. She generally only gets them when my MIL watches her (which was the case yesterday). MIL mentioned when I picked up my baby that she had a rash. MIL swore up and down that she had "changed the baby more often than usual". I wonder if darling MIL is leaving her in a wet diaper for far too long. Anyway, when I changed my DD next she was covered in a very thick coating of Desitin (could using this trap in moisture if applied to wet skin?).It should be noted that a couple of months ago this happened before and I actually had to explain to my MIL that she MUST change the baby's diaper even when baby just urinates.
I've tried to keep my DD as dry as possible. I even left her out of a diaper for about an hour today and have tried taking the time to really let her air dry before putting on ointment etc. I have used some diaper ointments (I used Balmex last night along with some corn starch based baby powder). When she's had rashes like this before they've not been as bad and have cleared up over night. It's looking better but she cries when I try to chang her because her rash hurts. Any tips?
Also sorry for the partial rant. :) Thanks in advance for any tips you might have and hope you all have a nice holiday.
Thanks so very much for all the great tips everyone!!!
here's a bump for you.
i'm no help with 'sposies diapering. we switched to cloth which eliminated DDs rashes. we also use lil outlaws rump rub, works wonders and now even my 'sposie-using friends buy it instead of desitin and A&D stuff, since it heals and protects :D
I found that only Bordeaux's Buttpaste ever worked on my guys...you can only get it in the US (I'm Canadian) and it's always worked really well. I just ran out and had to get some other junk and it barely works. (I've ordered the Buttpaste online just hasn't gotten here yet!)

I love Butt Paste! lol my 7 month old recently developed his first ever rash. It wasn't bad at all but the Butt Paste works really good. It smells good too. I usually apply Butt Paste and then Johnson's Baby Powder and it keeps him dry. Since I have a boy I wipe it on his butt, in between his buttcheeks, on his privates, and in the folds of skin between his legs and privates. I don't know where all u can put it on a girl though. Tell your MIL that your baby needs to be changed or at least checked for a wet diaper every hour-and to change it even if it seems only a little bit wet. I know sometimes my son's diapers will seem only a little wet when I check from the outside but are actually more wet then they initially seemed when I change it right after checking.
I used Aquaphore. It is awesome. My son would get diaper rashes when my MIL or SIL would watch him too, I still think they dont change his daiper enough. But that always worked. I tried Desetin and it sucked , it never worked . Also now my son has some dry, cracked skin and I use that on it and it helps that too.
i use calmoseptine it works better than anything i have ever used. its a little pricey though bout $7 tube. its not prescription but many places dont stock it. you have to go to the pharmacy and have them order it for you. www.calmoseptine.com
If she is spreading on a thick layer of paste that would totally cause the rash by itself even if she was changing him all the time. It traps in moisture and causes the problem. The nurse told me to rub in a very thin layer until its rubbed in completely, let it air dry as often as possible, and use a wash-cloth until its healed instead of wipes (which can irritate the skin).
Also, maybe tell your MIL that since your baby has been getting such bad rashes--you want her changed every hour and tell her to just apply a tiny amount of butt cream and rub it in. Hopefully that will help. Also, I love Bordeaux Butt Paste too! Its awesome!
GL! :D
