I started my son at 4 months but the only reason I waited was because my husband was training for a few weeks so I wanted him to be home for the first time. A few days after ceral we started him on first foods.

I started my daughter Hope on spoon feeding cereal at 4 months.  She was also still being breast fed.

Mother of 5.  DS (21), DS (18), SS (17), DD (10), DD (baby).  My oldest has moved out.  My other 3 bio kids live with us.  My DH has custody of SS, but he's just recently gone to try-out living with his mom after living with his dad for the past 7 years.

I started at 4 mos after my son's doctor's appointment. If he's holding up his head and can sit supported you probably could start spoon feeding him. But don't rush it, if he's not ready wait. And I only started because my DR gave me the OK. So always consult you ped first.

They have special bottles that you can put baby food in- we tried that before we did the spoon feeding (at around 4.5 months) then at 5 we moved to spoon feeding.  He didn't like cereal so we only tried that a couple times.  At first he spit it right back out, but he got the hang of it. :) GOOD LUCK!

I'm a young (but strict) independent Mommy of one (so far).  I firmly believe in CIO, front facing, semi-vaccinating, ocassional spanking/time-outs, tough love!  Nothing irritates this Mommy more than immature little girls wanting a baby so badly then NOT TAKING CARE OF THEIR OWN!  You give us "Young Momma's" a bad name- and we don't deserve it.

We startd putting cereal in a bottle per our dr. order at 2 months b/c he wasn't getting full and he had reflux really bad. Then spoon fed him around 5 months. He took a little longer than other kids b/c he's a preemie. Then we startd veggies, then fruit, then meat. NOw at 15 months he's eating solid table foods with no problems!!

Same here cereal at 2 months old for the reflux and getting him full by ped orders. Spoon feeding at 5  months old. Now at 13 months old he eats almost everything. My son was born a 35 week preemie.

4 years ago when my daughter was a baby I started feeding her cereal about 4 months. I think that was the recommendation then. Then we went to other foods around 6 mos. My son will be 4 mos on the 13th but as long as he is still gaining weight on breastmilk I'm going to wait to start him on other foods. This is what I found on KidsHealth.org.

Feeding Your 4 to 7 month Old

This is the age when most babies are introduced to solid foods. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) currently recommends gradually introducing solid foods when a baby is about 6 months old. Your doctor, however, may recommend starting as early as 4 months depending on your baby's readiness and nutritional needs. Be sure to check with your doctor before starting any solid foods.

Is My Baby Ready to Eat Solids?

How can you tell if your baby is ready for solids? Here are a few hints:

  • Is your baby's tongue-thrust reflex gone or diminished? This reflex, which prevents infants from choking on foreign objects, also causes them to push food out of their mouths.
  • Can your baby support his or her own head? To eat solid food, an infant needs good head and neck control and should be able to sit up.
  • Is your baby interested in food? A 6-month-old baby who stares and grabs at your food at dinnertime is clearly ready for some variety in the food department.

BTW I really reccomend this website. Its got lots of pediatrician backed info for kids of all ages.
