My question is I took my 10mo. olds temp under the armpit with a digital thermometer and it was 101.2 now last I heard you were not suppose to add the degree anymore. Does anyone know anything or heard anything about this? And is there a stomach bug going around at all cause he ate a jar of baby food and threw it all up and after I cleaned him up that is when I took his temp.
Thanks!
Quoting Honeybun09:Sorry, my 11 month old has never had a fever. For some reason, no matter what infection she's ever had, she's never had a fever with it. I hope someone can help! Good luck!
Use a reliable thermometer to confirm a fever (which is when a child's temperature is at or above one of these levels):
- 100.4° F (38° C) measured rectally (in the bottom)-MOST ACCURATE
- 99.5° F (37.5° C) measured orally (in the mouth)
- 99° F (37.2° C) measured in an axillary position (under the arm)-YOU ADD ONE DEGREE
I don't know about the adding of the temperature but I do know there are bugs going around. DS had it last week for one day. I always do the temp rectally. Was the food that he ate a new one? If it isn't new it could be an allergy. Either way I hope he is feeling better.
Thank you all for your help! The food I gave him was nothing new to him he has ate before. I know he does not feel good cause all he wants is me to hold him and when I do he just sleeps! He is warm this morning so im waiting to call the dr to see what they want me to do! Thanks again for all your help!
You always add a degree to the underarm temp unless you are using a thermometer that is specific for underarm use. Then it's already calibrated that way. So for the majority of thermometers, add the degree. There is a pretty nasty stomach bug going around our area, so that may be what you are dealing with too. I just give tylenol or motrin for fevers over 102 (tylenol is easier on the stomach though so for tummy issues I stay away from motrin) and give small amounts of non milk based fluids throughout the day. My son is a chronic vomiter so if you have any questions, PM me. :-)

Agreed! When they are that age they cant really tell you what is wrong or what hurts. Its better to get him seen if need be to make sure there isnt something more serious going on.
When Jessi was little, she was running a low grade fever that shot up real fast and she had a fever seizure. She was fine but what I thought was just a little stomach bug, ended up putting her in the hospital for a week. Sorry, this happened 10 years ago and I cannot off the top of my head remember the exact name of what she had....sorry. But like I said, she is fine now.
